To drown one's Verti
Is life not going in the direction you wanted it to? Maybe the love of your life refused your courtship or your landlord threw you out on the streets without a valid reason or perhaps it's something smaller in significance but still able to ruin one's mood like your favourite place that made that favourite dish of yours had closed that day.
If such things happen to you, you will find people recommend that you go to the nearest watering hole and drown your Verti in some cheap wine. To outsiders who might not be from the Empire of Dercias southern regions. But in these regions, it's common to use the expression "To drown one's Verti" and it generally meant that the person should go to the local tavern, get themself something to drink and just sit there and take in the surroundings before they know it they are gripped by the atmosphere and are enjoying themself and have forgotten what it was that made them sad to begin with.
No one is quite sure where or when the phrase was first used but some scholars have a theory that the Verti word is old equipment that was used to dip into the tankards of wine or ale in a tavern and the drowning comes from how many times the inn-keeper had to dip this Verti into the tankards. Then over the years, it had developed into a sort of saying.
"Others believe that its origins are connected to the Wet Verti , a mythical bird said to live in the area around Pearlhal . However, some have difficulty with this theory, as there is a significant distance between Pearlhal and the southern regions where this phrase is commonly used. A supporting idea is that the locals in the south heard about the mystical Verti bird and its association with water, and over time, the phrase evolved into 'To drown one's Verti.'"
Haha, love this take on the prompt.
