With the Empire of Dercia experiencing what many call the beginning of a golden age, many trading companies start up and fail, the merchant cycle.
Among the many start-ups, the Karthaginis trading company has managed to establish a foothold in the market, and they were founded by a group of visionary young nobles that, despite their noble status in the community, were among the poor of the nobility. The group used their connections to establish a trading network they began expanding on.
To follow their growth, the company is hiring hundreds of people to drive their carts, sail their cargo ships and manage their warehouses or manage the many stalls the company has in many different markets in cities all over the Empire. The company is expanding so fast that they can almost not keep up with the need.
The Karthaginis trading company like to say that the reason they managed to survive where other start-ups failed was not only due to their connections because although they had those, the company were founded by the funds that the students had made from their student jobs at the academy, the company likes to say that the reason is that they are employing cartographers, navigators and scholars that together can create detailed maps and gather information and opening up new trade routes that other companies don't use.
The Karthaginis trading company were also quick to select a resource that would be the one they focused on in their beginning, and the choice was salt as it's cheap to buy in bulk and can be sold all over the Empire for a good profit.
Like all other trading companies in the Empire, the Karthaginis trading company used engraved tablets to document trade agreements, shipments and payments.
Due to the rapid growth of the company, they sometimes overlook signs that otherwise would have been spotted, which means that they have managed to hire some drivers for their carts that are not on the right side of the Imperial law and are using the company to transport the drug made from Antodile around the empire.
