Battle at Dihav Island

During the first part of The war of Western expansion the Kingdom of Dercia suffered severe losses, legion after legion were lost and city after city fell to the invading Principality of Clifia, the only thing that kept the legions fighting and the morale of the kingdom high enough for the population to continue fighting were that despite the monumental losses the army suffered, the navy of the kingdom managed to keep the traderoutes free and minimize how much the Clifian navy were able to raid along the coast. 
For the sea campaign, people like Eliose Redstream were vital for the morale. Unlike on land, on the sea during the entirety of the war there were never any major battles or battles that could have said to have turned the tide of the war, the war at sea can best be described as a myriad of minor battles and skirmisses. One of these skirmisses were that of Dihav island, a small insignificant island located in the Emerald sea.
The sun had just risen about the horizon when the sound of battle rang out over the Emerald sea, twenty Dercian warships had the evening before discovered a Clfian convoy escorted by fifteen warships and the Dercians had decided to shadow them during the night and move into a position that when the sun appeared the next day, the sun would blind the Clifian sailors and observers, making it easier for the Dercians to maintain the element of surprise.
When it comes to tactics, the battle at Dihav island is not one that will be remembered and told to students in the academies, the Dercian tactic consisted of closing the distance quickly and hit the Clifians with their onboard artillery and then bord the enemy ships, this lack of tactic did lead to some confusing moments when two Dercian ships clashed in their attempt to attack the same Clifian ship but despite the lack of tactics, the Dercians due to their element of surprise managed to inflict enough damage on the Clifians and sow enough confusion that after only 30 minutes of battle, the Clifians either surrendered or managed to pull away and escape.

Outcome

The short term effects of the battle were not really clear other than the Dercian navy had managed to disrupt the operations of a large enemy convoy and capture a few ships.

Aftermath

In the long-term, the battle helped cement the hold the Dercian navy had on the sea and helped the struggling kingdom bring in fresh resources and keep the economy going.
