Ash Baked Deer

The dish known as Ash Baked Deer is from the southwest region of the Empire of Dercia. It is a unique culinary creation from the people that live there. The deer chosen for the meal will be the best the hunters can catch, and the meat will be prepared to gain a unique tenderness and flavour. A day or two before the feast where the meal is to be served, the meat will be marinated with a blend of herbs and spices unique to the region; having been marinated for around a day, the meat will be covered in large leaves from a local bush. Following this, the meat will be laid down in a hole dug in the ground where a fire has been lit and allowed to burn out; following this, the meat is covered with hot ash from other fires, and then the hole is covered with stones and dirt and allowed to stay buried until a few hours before its serves were it's then dug up and prepared for serving. To accompany the Ash baked deer, there are a whole array of side dishes that helps enhance the experience. Dishes such as roasted root vegetables and wild berries are provided as well. There are two main versions of the Ash Baked deer; the most well-known version is the one where the meat is prepared of the best and takes the longest to make. This version is mainly reserved for when the tribes that live in the region receive prominent visits from friends of the local leaders or friends of the tribe as a whole. The other version is the more common one and is done with all sorts of meat but is still, to outsiders, known under the name Ash Baked Deer as the preparation is almost identical to the more prestige version, but this standard version can be prepared in less than a day.
