15th Legion´s specialized artillery section

The 15th Legion´s specialized artillery section is a specialized section attached to the 15th Legion by name only, the section is rarely at one place at the same time, most of the time its spread out amongst the legions.
The section was created shortly after the start of the First unification war when the armies of Pearlhal needed to besiege a large number of highly fortified cities and forts so they decided to form a specialized group whose single purpose was to provide the legions with elite crews operating the siege engines.
When it comes to the military of the Kingdom of Dercia and later on the empire, they don't normally operate their own catapults, ballista or other siege engines those tasks were provided by mercenaries hired by the state but when the need for siege equipment rose during the war, the military formed their own branch specialized in those tasks.
When a Dercian army need to besiege a city or such, they will leave the task to the soldiers from the specialized artillery section that is attached to all legions

Composition

Manpower

At full capacity, the section operates with 700 men but generally, it's lower than that.
Most of the section was made up of the crew operating the ballista and catapults.

Equipment

Of the specialized equipment the section made use of was:
50 ballista of different sizes, mostly the smaller 2 man version used both for sieges to keep defenders down but also in pitched battles to open holes in the enemy line.
20 catapults.
5 trebuchets.

Weaponry

If all things have failed and the sections soldiers are forced to fight, they will make use of the standard equipment for legions except they will usually use a smaller shield.

Vehicles

When marching to partake in a siege, the sections siege equipment will be transported in wagons.

Training

Soldiers from this section will daily train with the siege engines and will train things from reloading faster and being more precise with the shots. It is said that some of the best crews from this section is able to snipe, enemy soldiers of the walls, thanks to their training.

Logistics

Logistical Support

While around 200 of the 700 soldiers making up the section is operating and training with the siege engines, the rest of the section is made up of people who can maintain the equipment and transport it from their base to the battlefield where it is needed.

Upkeep

When it comes to salary for the soldiers, supplies and maintaining the equipment and other means, the section has an upkeep cost of 200 gold a day.

The recruitment for the section is open for any who wishes to become a part of it.

History

One of the battles that the section values very highly is when they partook in the siege of Pearlhal when the Royalists where besieging the city during The Decade of 5 Emperors.
