Windy Nook

Windy Nook is a small, quiet agricultural village of 186 people nestled along the fertile banks of the Glassy Brook in County Slate. Life here revolves around farming the surrounding gentle hills and harvesting lumber from the nearby Old Thorn Woods to the north. Though relatively isolated, the village is within a few miles of the coast to the southwest and larger settlements like the Solemn Hill Monastery to the north and the town of Fairshield to the east-southeast, providing occasional trade and connection to the wider world.

Assets

  • The Red Griffin Inn: Windy Nook's only tavern. It's a simple building and often serves multiple purposes including meeting hall, restaurant, and watering hole.
  • Elder Lara's Farm: The largest and most established farm in the village. It is owned by Elder Lara Featherdown, a village elder and influential figure within the town.
  • The Woodcutter's Clearing: An area on the east edge of the village close to the Old Thorn Woods where logs are gathered and prepared for transport.
  • The Bridge over the Glassy Brook: A simple wooden bridge connecting the two sides of town to one another.

History

The history of Windy Nook is a quiet one, rooted in the land. It began as a small cluster of families drawn to the fertile banks of the Glassy Brook for farming. The presence of the Old Thorn Woods provided timber for building, and the brook offered a natural route downstream towards the coast.   For generations, life in Windy Nook revolved around agriculture and the rhythm of the seasons. No major historical events or battles were ever fought here. Its growth was gradual, fueled by births and occasional families seeking a peaceful life. The presence of the Solemn Hill Monastery to the north anchored the population and provided religious stability in the area.

Geography

Windy Nook is situated along the banks of the slow-moving Glassy Brook in County Slate, surrounded by gently rolling farmland that slopes towards the water. To the north, the dense Old Thorn Woods provide timber and a sense of wildness, while a little over a mile to the southwest, following the brook's course, lies the coast. The terrain subtly rises to the north towards the Solemn Hill Monastery, located about 2.7 miles away, and stretches into more open or gently undulating land towards the larger town of Fairshield, approximately 5.5 miles to the east-southeast.
