Session 46
After finishing off the manticore and searching its remains, the Party headed back to the farmer. They had been gone for nearly three hours and the sun was getting low in the sky. The farmer approached the triumphant adventurers and presented with a small token of his appreciation: a sack will 200 gold pieces in it. The Party split it equally among themselves and then headed back to the Frigate's Dragon tavern. Their business concluded, they rested for the rest of the evening before heading out.
The following day, the Party readied their horses and continued heading east until they reached the village of Shroudwatch nearly 12 hours later. The village was small and they could see all the way the other side from the Rockchill Road. As they entered the village, they stopped to talk to the blacksmith, a human named Richard Bing, momentarily. Typhon asked if there was anything strange going on in town, and Richard mentioned that about a month earlier the town had been attacked by Drow who had taken three children back with them. He told them that they might talk to the town magistrate, Erik Daargen, who was last seen in the tavern across the street.
The Party headed to The Cursed Boot - the local tavern. As they entered, they noticed an older human chatting with the bartender. The man's white hair draped across the side of his face as he turned and noticed the weary travelers. He introduced himself as Erik Daargen, the town magistrate and welcomed the adventurers to Shroudwatch. He bought them a round of drinks and asked what brought them their way. Bloodbane mentioned that they were on their way to Silverward and stopped off in town for the night. They had heard about the town's Drow problem and offered to help. He glanced over at the bartender, a human female named Brooklinea Arkalis, and began to awkwardly flirt with her. At first she seemed receptive but was quickly disuaded when his stench hit her hard.
Meanwhile, the magistrate began to discuss what had transpired barely a month ago. He detailed the attack by the Drow on the town in the middle of the night, which resulted in the kidnapping of three teenagers from the village. Typhon volunteered the services of their group in the recovery of the teens, but at a price. A little bit of back-and-forth later and they had settled on 200 gold pieces per recovered child. It was starting to get a bit late when Erik decided it was time for him to head home.
About an hour later, as the group sat around drinking their ales, Vigwalin noticed some shadowy figures creeping around on the rooftops of the neighboring buildings. He quickly cast his daylight cantrip on them, sending them scattering off the rooftops just as quickly as they had been noticed. Vigwalin recognized them as Drow, and there was now likely a fight on the group's hands.
