Session 23
Sir Didymus struck first as he launched a pair of arrows at one of the nothics, hitting it in the shoulder. Another nothic emerged from behind a rock wall to the south and cast rotting gaze from its massive green eyeball at Typhon. Bloodbane charged at the creature while Vigwalin charged at the northern nothic while summoning a giant constrictor snake. Just then two more nothics emerged from behind another wall. Sir Didymus attemtped to fight one by himself, but soon needed the help of Bloodbane. Flesh was ripped from bone as Ravager cleaved at the nothic. Armor was torn to shreds as the nothics clawed at Vigwalin. Blood and gore spattered on the ground as one by one, the nothics were defeated. In the aftermath, Typhon uncoverd a Wand of Secrets on one of the creatures.
The Party continued their exploration of the cave, with the sound of drip-drip-dripping ever present. As the Party rounded a bend, a black pudding dropped from the ceiling on top of most of the adventurers! The group was taken by surprise as acid began to destroy the group's armor and weapons. The amorphous creature was destroyed in a surprisingly short amount of time. In the search, they uncovered two health potions, a Potion of Frost Giant Strength, and a Potion of Storm Giant Strength.
Soon after the Party saw the glimmer of daylight up ahead as it pierced the darkness of the cave through an opening in the ceiling. Another wooden ladder, leading to the surface of Vandrbjod was propped up against it. As the group began to climb, Aloysius, Sir Didymus's trusted wolf companion, began to yelp and spasm. A flameskull - the same one that he had consumed earlier - erupted from his abdomen a horrifying second later. Aloysius had died. The group quickly dispatched the flameskull, smashing it to bits against the cave wall. They took the time to bury Aloysius nearby to pay their respects.
As the group emerged from the cave, they could see a small town with ornate, high roofed houses in front of them. A quick scan by Typhon's familiar, Hootie, revealed that it appeared to be a small farming town populated primarily by plainly-dressed humans. Another, larger town about a mile to the northeast could also be seen, as well as a number of airships in what appeared to be a holding pattern over the town. In the distance, a large palace could be seen jutting up against a mountain range. They decided to make for the larger town to seek shelter for the night.
About 30 minutes later, they arrived in town. The sights, sounds, and smells all spoke of a town much larger and more cosmopolitan than the one they had passed through. Well-dressed merchants from all walks of life, traders from around the world, town cryers, and others walked the streets barely giving the Party a second look. The group decided on one of a pair of taverns that they saw: The Righteous Cave. Inside, they began to strike up a conversation with the local bartender, a human named Aríel Jósteinsson. The group mentioned that they were in town for a short while and that they wanted to learn about Gorfius. Ariel informed them that one of his regulars actually works in Gorfius's palace as a servant: a half-elf named Zandriel Leorel...
