The town is surrounded by a nine-foot tall wooden palisade with entrances on both the south side (along the main road) and the north side which opens up to a drawbridge crossing the Berkwood Beck. A third gate on the east side of town opens up to the Northford area of town. Eleven watch towers dot the perimeter of the walls, which are manned intermittently by a small town guard. The palisade mainly serves to keep out animals and raiding goblin bands, but every now and then larger attackers, such as giants and the occassional hill giant, will make an attempt on the town.
