Scyldaria
Scyldaria is a habitable ocean world, notable for being the homeworld of the Scyldari and the capital of the Scyldari Confederacy. The planet, the third satellite of the Scyldon System, is a calm, temperate water world with a particularly delicate biosphere. The surface is approximately 91% water, with the land comprised of three major continents and thousands of smaller archipelagos.
A majority of the planet's population lives on land, mostly within 50 kilometres of the shore. The remaining population lives on floating cities in calm archipelagos, with a small number living in deep-sea or polar installations. Due to relatively stable sea conditions across much of the planet, especially within island chains, the sea is considered a stable foundation upon which to construct buildings and infrastructure.
Due to strict environmental controls on heavy industry, mining is rare on Scyldaria. Instead, agriculture is the largest part of the primary sector, followed by energy generation. Although traditional land-based agriculture is very common, aquaponics are very popular in the calm waters of protected archipelagos where land is more limited. Energy generation is primarily hydrothermal, drawing power from deep-sea volcanic vents; tidal, utilising open-ocean generators to harness Scyldaria's lunar tides on a massive scale; and fusion, with large reactors providing inland cities local sources of power. Solar power is rare, due to the high levels of cloud coverage across the planet.
The main industrial centres of the planet are located along the continental shorelines in major cities. Although oceanic cities are safe and stable for building large structures, the natural foundation of land is cheaper for building large, heavy manufacturing plants. Industrial pollution is strictly regulated, meaning that the vast majority of industry on Scyldaria is light industry. The rest of the planet's economy revolves around government infrastructure, services, finance, and technological development.
