Imperial Tzynn Coronation Ceremony

The Imperial Tzynn Coronation Ceremony is the ceremony where the Emperor of the Tzynn is formally coronated as the ruler of the Tzynn Empire. As a new Emperor immediately inherits the duties and responsibilities of their predecessor, the coronation ceremony is primarily symbolic. The ceremony takes place over the course of five days, where the new Emperor takes oaths of loyalty from the military, governors, and bureaucracy, but the formal crowning event takes place on the second day of the event.

The moment an Emperor of the Tzynn is confirmed to have died, a number of events must quickly take place before the coronation of their successor can take place. Within minutes of the death, the Imperial Chancellor is required to enter the deceased Emperor's quarters in the Imperial Palace and retrieve the secret line of succession. While an Emperor names the Crown Prince publicly, a secret heir preference list is kept in the event that the Crown Prince is themselves deceased or otherwise incapable of ascending to the throne. Once the Chancellor has memorised the list, it is immediately destroyed without anyone else seeing it. Following this, the Chancellor contacts the Crown Prince - now the new Emperor - through a secure channel and informs them of their duty to return to the Imperial palace at once. As the Crown Prince is usually the governor of a planet within the core of Tzynn space, it can take days or weeks for them to return. In the meantime, a period of mourning is declared across the Empire.

The first day of the five day long coronation ceremony is the funeral for the previous Emperor. The body is brought through the capital in a solemn procession to the Imperial Palace, where it is entombed with all of the other deceased Emperors. The old Emperor's harem would be relocated to a building separate from the Imperial Palace, though in some cases might be sold to high-ranking Imperial officers. The second day of the ceremony is the coronation itself, where the new Emperor, clad in a traditional military uniform, takes the Imperial Diadem (made from the crowns of the old kings of Tzynnia and melted down by Hask'Mezak) from a pedestal and places it upon their own head. This action symbolises the inherent power of the Emperor above all other Tzynn, as the entire audience (including generals, admirals, and governors) is required to kneel as they do so. After placing the crown on their head, the Emperor uses the Sword of the Tzynn (as wielded by Hask'Mezak) to execute a slave or prisoner before the audience, cementing their authority in blood.

The days following the coronation ceremony are those of celebration. The third day sees a massive military parade through the streets of the capital, as well as smaller parades in the capital cities of the Tzynn colonies. As part of the parade, the Emperor conducts a fleet review of the Imperial Starfleet as it passes by through the lower atmosphere of Tzynnia. The fourth day sees the Imperial Arena opened for a grand exhibition, where thousands of criminals, dissidents, terrorists, and prisoners of war are executed or fight to the death before the Emperor. On the fifth and final day of the ceremony, a feast is held in the Imperial Palace, followed by a tour of the capital, where the Emperor is showered by gifts and praise from their subjects.

Throughout the coronation ceremony and the following months, the Emperor selects a new Imperial Council and Privy Council. Many Emperors choose to retain most of the advisors of their predecessor, as they themselves served in the Council while they were the Crown Prince. One of the foremost duties of the council is vetting and reviewing applications for the Emperor's new harem, which is assembled as quickly as possible. Once the Council has narrowed the hundreds of thousands of applications down to a more manageable number, the Chancellor personally inspects applicants (who may be free or slaves) and provides a shortlist of recommendations to the Emperor. The Emperor then inspects the candidates personally, before settling on their final choices approximately six months after their coronation.
