Onia Wildermere

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Onia Wildermere was born in the realm of Wolfheim. Situated across the Neider Straits in the Northlands, near both Huldramose and Trollheim, the scrub and northern boreal forests of Wolfheim hide crumbled ruins of the fallen elven empire of Thorn. This nation is ruled by Reaver dwarves. These are the ancesters of the dwarven raiders who toppled the ancient elven nation in the distant past. Humans in this land are Thralls, who scratch out a living in this land, either hunting or tending the herds of Reindeer that their dwarven lords own, in order to put food on their lord's plates. At all times, they must watch for the eyes of the wolf folk who watch from the treelines. The dreaded winter wolves hide behind the tree line, and being intelligent far beyond what any four legged creature has a right to, seem to act as guards or shepherds for the dwarves, keeping their human thralls in line.
Her father, Magnus Wildermere, and step-mother, Ingrid Wildermere are both alive. Her father is a hunter, bonded to the service of Magni Ragnarrson, a dwarven reaver. He is tasked with putting meat on his lord's table. Onia's mother, Grunhild, was killed by wolves when Onia was still a small girl. Her sister, Ingrid, moved in to help take care of Onia and her older sister Gutrun, and eventually fell in love with him. Eventually Onia's younger stepsister Sigrid was born.   Though Magnus was born in Wolfheim, both Ingrid and Gutrun lived in Huldramose and were captured by Magni Ragnarrson during a raid.   As a teenager, Onia liked a boy who lived near her. Tomas Munsterson was the son of a family living in a nearby home. However, one afternoon when Onia had agreed to meet him at a local swimming hole her father prevented her, as it was a night before the full moon and he was concerned for her safety. Onia never got to tell Tomas she wasn't going to join him.....and Tomas went without her.   The next morning word passed around that Tomas had gone missing the night before. He wasn't in hid bed in the morning. On learning of this, Onia felt a bolt of icy cold go through her body and raced to the swimming hole. She found his tattered and ragged clothes amongst the grass and ferns at the edge of the swimming hold, along with copious amounts of blood. She followed the blood into the nearby woods, where she found his mangled and largely eaten corpse, still carrying a necklace she had made for him around his neck.   After dealing with her anger, Onia saw a trail of blood lead from his body deeper into the woods. She followed it, ignoring the cries of her family and neighbours behind, and followed the wolf tracks she found deeper into the woods. There she found a dwarf lord, Knut Friggarson, laying naked among the ferns. There was blood all over his hands and forearms, as well as all over his mouth, and bits of human skin under his fingernails. Onia realized he must be a werewolf, and was enraged.   Something....snapped. Onia's vision went red and she just wanted to destroy. When she came to yourself, she could taste blood in her mouth, and realized she'd ripped Knut's throat out with her own jaws. Onia was horrified by what she had done....yet felt empowered, realizing she had it within her to defend your family.   She didn't want her family to see her covered in blood and were terrified she might herself be a werewolf, so while her family and neighbours sought her, she snuck through the woods and returned home, washing off the blood in the Reindeer pen's water trough. When her family found her, she explained she'd been so horrified by finding Tomas' body that she had been sick, and come home to wash up.   Everything seemed fine for a few days afterwards, until Knutt's disappearance led to Magni Ragnarrson being involved in a search for him. Winter wolves were able to locate the body by scent, and 4 nights after Tomas' death, they raided Onia's home. For the second time she shifted form into a wolflike creature, and along with her father, used flame to drive them off by badly injuring one of them.   Onia's family realized they could no longer remain, stole reindeer and fled.   Onia and her family were able to cross into the nearby realm of Huldramose, a realm of Fey and Trollkin ruled by a pair of elfmarked Sister Queens named Thorgerd and Dark Irpa.   In the realm of Huldramose, a Huldra wizardess named Astrid Friggadottir recognized Onia's inborn talent and fiery spirit, and began teaching her some of the techniques of the Art. However, Astrid's skills leaned more towards the subtle enchantments of Faerie. After their first year in Huldramose, Astrid became infatuated with Onia's father. Using her fey wiles, she enchanted him and stole him away to the Bright Lands.   Horrified by what had happened to her father, and unable to find a way to cross over, Onia fled Huldramose and traveled south. She heard tales of a school of magic in a city called Zobeck and traveled there, where she gained entry as a student to the Arcane Collegium.   In the last year, as she has gained skill in both spell and blade, she met a young priest of Rava known as Nephi Ravovik. He hired her as well as some other warriors to escort some priests of the temple south to a shrine. Unfortunately, Onia gained first hand experience with the perils of the road when the expedition encountered river trolls.

Education

Onia has spent almost five years training at the Arcane Collegium. She has learned that, though possessed of a natural skill, she does not seem to have the patience for pure arcane scholarship. She's too much a woman of action, and has picked up some skills as a warrior.

Mental Trauma

Onia is traumatized by losing her first love to a werewolf. She was also originally traumatized by her original transformation into a witchwolf. Beyond that first transformation, she's learned she can control herself when she changes.   She also doesn't trust the fey, since her own teacher stole her father away from her family.
