Astraea (As-Tray-Ah)

Astraea is the Goddess of Wisdom and Society. She grants her divine guidance to those who have positions of authority within society, teaching that a ruler who seeks knowledge through good council can best protect and enrich the lives of their citizens, ensuring a strong state. All kinds of leaders look to Astraea for guidance, from kings and queens to tribal chieftains. Astraea is worshiped by those who follow the laws of society; lawmakers pray to her for guidance when drafting a new law to apply to their governance, paladins pray that they are able to bring justice to those who are in need of it, clerics of Astraea pray that the peace of society is kept undisturbed, and it is common in a lot of state's governments for the majority of officials to be followers of Astraea. However, Astraea is also the patron deity of historians, scholars, and sages; all of whom seek enlightenment through the power of knowledge, she is known to these people as the Sage Maiden. Devotees of Astraea believe that knowledge is power and they strive to rediscover lost knowledge - both mundane and arcane - and unearth ancient secrets, much to the chagrin of Syllin, the goddess of secrets, and her keepers. Those who break the laws of society risk the wrath of the Mother of Justice in the form of her devout lawmen who dedicate themselves to upholding societal law and bringing justice to those who deserve it.
