Boorhav

Demographics

Boorhav is home to a higher-than-average number of elves, drawn to the lush alchemical gardens and conservatories, but otherwise contains the same roughly equal mix of humans and dwarves as the rest of the Viden League. The few dragonborn that live in Boorhav tend to be brassy-scaled.
As a major trading post, there is a distinctively Enkurine slant to the culture of Boorhav. The typically studious and reclusive nature of the Viden League is cut with the gregarious and easygoing nature of the Kingdom of Enkur, brought in by traders and migrants.

Government

The executive power in Boorhav is held by Chancellor Frederik, a particularly stocky and jocular dwarf. Day-to-day administration is controlled by the human Principal Bauhin. Rector Carolus, an elf who once worked as a mercenary for the Republic of Namu, handles academic and military matters.

Industry & Trade

Boorhav is well-positioned to act as a major trading post between the Viden League and the Kingdom of Enkur. Wealthy Enkurine are particularly attracted to the rare plants and alchemical extracts produced in Boorhav, and as a result the town is rich from their sale.
Bulk crops are more often sold and traded within the League, as few merchants wish to haul sacks of produce across the harsh deserts between Boorhav and the Kingdom.

Infrastructure

The largest structures in Boorhav are the dome-roofed botanical gardens, where rare plants from across Midara are cultivated for alchemical and agricultural purposes. At the center of Boorhav are the alchemical laboratories that form the town's academic enclave. These labs are used to process and distill reagents from the various exotic plant species grown in Boorhav, and perform agricultural research for the more mundane crops.
Boorhav is the easternmost town on the Circle of Wisdom, the circular road that links the major settlements of the Viden League. Roads from here lead to Keppel-Brahem in the north and Agrichav in the southwest. To the east lies the border with the Kingdom of Enkur, and the eastern road is littered with merchants and traders.

Architecture

Dwellings in Boorhav tend to be low above the ground, but extend into large basements below to avoid the worst of the desert heat. They are constructed out of native sandstone, often taking influences from the Enkurine style.
The academic enclave is similar, but rises a few stories above ground, giving it a commanding presence over the town. The compound is adorned with twisting copper pipes, used to manage water and heat across the many greenhouses attached to it.

Geography

Boorhav is located in what is officially the southwestern tip of the Enkuri desert. A cluster of natural aquifers provide a measure of fresh water to the town, and condensation from the greenhouses is also collected to bolster the supply.
