Khadan
Khadan is located on the west coast of the country and is the largest city next to the Vale. It boasts two valeports (the L.A. Valeports, one for personal travel and the other for imports/exports) as well as one of the most mixed communities in the world.
Khadan literally translates to "beacon of light, darkness", which is more commonly translated to "beacon of light out of darkness". This is a Glyssian misuse of the Microshan language.
Khadan is known as a city of opportunity, though it is hard to make it in Khadan. Like many big cities, people end up mistrusting one another and are isolated. Strangers to the city have a difficult time adjusting to the self-sufficient, fast-paced lifestyle of the most populated city in the world. Only a few who come seeking opportunities end up staying and making it. Others end up leaving or turn up homeless. Khadan is also a city of excess: drugs, alcohol, gambling, entertainment, pollution, crime, people, construction, cars, homelessness, money, etc. There is nothing that Khadan lacks except moderation.
It is dirty except in those wealthy areas that pay for the privilege of things like clean streets and purified air. Though close to the ocean, few people enjoy a day at the beach (especially swimming) due to pollution. The wealth gap between classes is vast, one of the worst in the world, though it maintains a fairly healthy middle class. Most people live with some amount of pollution, whether that be the air or literal trash on the sidewalks, but it is still considered better living than other parts of the country (such as New Boston).
The climate is fairly moderate and dry, with few markers for seasonal changes. The only severe weather comes in the form of heatwaves, which often turn into natural fires. Rainstorms are rare but do happen every few years.
