Doywood Kingdom

The Kingdom of Doywood likes to brag about how it is the only kingdom left in Merona from the First Era. And they are not incorrect. Formed in 2867 FiE Doywood broke apart from Greater Unomia during the War for the Eternal Flame. They also managed to survive through multiple attacks from Malkis during the Second Era, although their kingdom shrunk from multiple successful offences by Malkis during that time. However, in the Third Era they managed to pick up quite a bit of territory from the Hvedra in the waning days of their empire.

Public Agenda

Doywoods agenda seems mainly to grow itself to its pre-war days. It is increasing trade with Kashia and Opallot, and its trade with Unomia also remains steady for now. It is trying to slowly rebuild its military to its pre-war days, although attempting to do so as under the curtain as possible

History

Doywood, established in 2867 FiE, was formed because Unomia was using the Eternal Flame to help the people in the northern half of the isle, but not the southern. The people of Doywood rallied around General Hunter Fallius, a decorated military general. He promised to capture the Eternal Flame, and use it to replace the corrupt Unomian monarchy, and reunite Merona. Doywood brought great success upon itself in fighting Unomia initially, mainly because Unomia's forces were tied up in Kashia, however, as Doywood pushed into Unomia during the War, Unomia payed more attention and began pushing back with much greater force. Past this point, Doywood was merely attempting to survive, as Unomia pushed down on them, and many Unomian nationalists inside Doywood rebelled.   However, Doywood managed to survive, and eventually Kashia sacked Unomis and executed the Unomian royal family, and Doywood was saved. Moving into the Second Era, Doywood worked hard into building a nation from something other than rage at Unomia. They put down Unomia nationalists, and began working to create a common consciousness among its people. This became incredibly important due to Malkis' desire to annex Doywood, which would last throughout the Second Era, and Doywood would war with Malkis consistently.   During the Third Era, Doywood was the only country to survive the purge of the Hvedra, mainly due to their southern, warmer location, which the Hvedra were significantly less adept at fighting in. Doywood in fact expanded, as they managed to push the Hvedra, and their territory increased significantly.   Doywood was instrumental in removing the Hvedra from Merona. They invaded southern Kashia, and completely wiped out the Hvedra presence in modern day Mythelia, with the help of the dwarves. After ridding Merona of the Hvedra however, Doywood quickly became more hostile to Unomia, who it viewed as attempting to recreate the Merona from the First Era, which Doywood viewed as oppressive.   During the Great War of the Fourth Era, Doywood was decisively dealt with by Opallot and Unomia, and it was forced to make economic concessions to both countries, and it was shown during the Great War that Doywood could no longer seriously compete with Unomia either economically or militarily.

Territories

Doywood occupies the southern half of the central Meronian island, as well as the southeastern island of Salridge.

Military

Doywood's military is state of the art, and is able to perform warfare on a mass scale. Although not nearly close enough to challenge Unomia in a serious way, Doywood's army is still a force to be reckoned with, and could repel an attack from almost any front.

Religion

Doywood follows the traditional Meronian pantheon.

Foreign Relations

Doywood has relatively positive foreign relationships with Kashia and Mythelia, as they have been benefitting from Kashia's presence in the Broken Frontier. Doywoods relationship with Opallot is mostly neutral, and based solely on trade, while their relationship with Unomia is that of cool neutrality. Unomia is suspicious of Doywood of attempting to reassert a sense of political dominance over Merona, while Doywood is still resentful of the Great War. Doywood has mostly put Fallnar to the sidelines, and although they are nominally still allies, Doywood regards the eastern kingdom as a lost cause.

Trade & Transport

Doywood holds positive trade relations with all of Merona, and has so since the Great War ended. One can obtain transport to anywhere on the central island from Doywood, although border enforcement to Unomia is tight. One can also gain reliable transport to Fallnar. However, transport to Kashia, Mythelia or the Broken Frontier, is mainly done through Opallot, which is more of a hub than Doywood.

The currency of Doywood is a golden coin stamped with the coat of arms of the country, called a Forest. The silver coins of Doywood are known as Moons, due to the crescent stamped onto the coin. Finally, Doywood also mints copper coins called pennies, which are small, and have only the head of the current king on them.
Legislative Body
The legislature of Doywood is a very simplistic system. It is comprised of a unicameral house known simply as the legislative body. Members are elected by districts, which are divided by population. The legislative body has the full authority to determine tax codes, economic regulations, and other internal policies, while the king has a partial veto. However, in the terms of foreign policy and war, the king has full authority.
Judicial Body
The Judicial body is just as simple as the legislative system, with a system of courts with judges appointed by the king. Judges have full discretion over all civil and legal disputes, and are trusted to judge wisely. Although judges verdicts can technically be overruled by the king, and judges can also be removed by the king, this rarely happens except with cases that are of concern to the monarch
Executive Body
The king is the sole executor of the state, and has complete authority over all executive decisions

Peace

Kashia holds relatively good relations with Doywood, although they are not friends. Kashia will not backup Doywood in the case of a war, despite Doywood's wishes. However, the two countries hold trade well enough, and Doywood is an essential supplier of exotic seafood to the Kashian elite

Peace

Opallot and Doywood's good relations are entirely dependant on trade, as they hold politically diverging agendas, however, Opallot has been relatively warm to Doywood since the Great War, unlike Unomia.

Peace

These two countries have typically been cold to each other. Doywood mistrusts Unomia, and sees them as imperialists, and Unomia sees Doywood as using their fears as an excuse for aggression. Their tensions reached their head during the Great War of 257-261. Unomia won the war, and in the years since then, Doywood has reluctantly restored relations with Unomia, although they remain strained to this day.
