Unomia

Unomia is a country that was built to attempt and reinstate Merona as it was of old. Established by The King out of the West Zephrim I, it was taken as a kingdom in ruin from the Hvedra. However, over the past 250+ years Unomia has grown into the most powerful nation in Merona. Zephrim's original goal was to recreate Merona as of old. A united kingdom with Unomia at its center. However, as time went on, that dream has slowly faded away, since the other nations in Merona aren't keen on losing their sovereignty, and Unomia has not the resources for a full conquest of Merona.

Culture

Unomia, although originally born from a country that held massive swaths of territory on the eastern continent, has completely abandoned their old country. Unomians completely upended their lives when they arrived in Merona, and have completely forgotten about all the old ways of the Eastern Kingdom.   Unomians celebrate The Day of Liberation on the 20th of Polonia, and also celebrate Hepatos. During the Day of Liberation celebrations there is usually some sort of reenactment of the battles between the Easterners and the Hvedra, and the king usually gives a speech about the bright future for Unomia and Merona.

History

Unomia was founded in 985 TE by Zephrim I, the king out of the east. Unomia was the primary force that liberated Unomia from the Hvedra, and by 4 FoE held all of modern day Unomia, Fallnar, 2/3rds of Jara and all of Acktarn. Unomia was quick to begin to colonize the Broken Frontier, re-establishing the old cities of Assex and Elnech, and establishing many smaller settlements across the main plains of Jara and Acktarn.   During this point in time, the rest of Merona began to be suspicious of the Unomian empire, and began to suspect that Unomia would try to expand. The primary holder of these fears was Doywood, who feared an invasion from its northern border. As such, when Fallnar declared independance from Unomia in 100 FoE, Doywood backed Fallnar wholeheartedly, and successfully managed to help wrench Fallnar out of Unomia's grasp by 104 FoE. In order to finance the war, Unomia made special pact with the Ingvid dwarves, whereas the dwarves would be able to populate the island of Acktarn freely, and jointly hold the island with Unomia provided that the dwarves paid a large fee to Unomia every year.     After the Fallnarian war for independence, Merona had a time of relative peace for over 100 years, until the Great War of 257-261 FoE. In this war, Unomia soundly defeated Kashia, Fallnar and Doywood with the help of Opallot, and was established as the dominant power in Merona. Since the Great War, Unomia has also partaken in assisting Opallot with conquering Ebon Pass and its related settlement, which were held by the Demonspire Cultists.

Territories

Unomia holds the northern 3/4 of the central island of Merona. It has a land border with Doywood that gives Unomia the entirety of the Armenstone Mountains (before the Great War the mountains were split between Doywood and Unomia). The border then swings northward so as to include the town of Vathe into Doywood. The border splits lake Milas at the bottom of the Armenstone Mountains in half, and while both sides agree that the border should not split the lake in half, neither side will concede the entire lake to the other, thus the border remains where it is, with both sides working extremely hard to ensure nobody crosses the border illegaly.

Military

Unomia's military is by far the strongest in all of Merona. They have secured their place as the most powerful nation in Merona during the Great War. It's military is professionally trained, with enlistees having to go through a one year military academy. And many Unomians sign up for the military, as there are great rewards for being in the military both economic and social. It boasts an impressive navy that is always up to date, and a special section of wizards that are reserved solely for war. Support for the military among the people is strong, as they see themselves as the new force in Merona, that will bring about its next Golden Era.

Currency
The base currency of Unomia is known as a Crown. It is a solid gold coin about the size of a fist that has the seal of the kingdom on one side, and the king's head on the other.    However, Crowns are very rarely used in actual transactions due to their high value, so the common man usually uses a smaller gold coin officially known as a Tithiriel but is more commonly known as a Sun, due to the image of the sun stamped onto it. 5 Suns equals a Crown.    The Uma is the silver coin of Unomia, and is more commonly known as a Boar, even though on the coin an image of royal palace is stamped. 10 Umas is one Sun.    Copper coins are accepted as currency by most merchants and vendors in Unomia, however the country does not have any official copper coin.
Legislative Body
The legislative body in Unomia is bilateral, with the upper house being known as the House of Delegates and the lower house being known as The Representory. This structure of government, unique in Merona, comes from the Eastern Kingdom, which was influenced by the countries around it while it was a nation on the Eastern Continent.   The House of Delegates is a house consisting of 27 delegates from each of the 9 provinces of Unomia. It is overseen by the king, or a representative that the king can send. Each province sends 3 delegates that are appointed by the governors of provinces, and none of them choose to hold elections for delegates. Usually, delegates are political elite from the governor's inner circle.    The Representory is made up of representatives from districts that are independent of provinces, and are drawn based on population by a the House of Delegates. The people in the districts elect representatives that then make up the Representory.    The two houses, while both draft legislation, have very different roles. The House of Delegates' role is to create legislation for individual provinces, while also approving national legislation created by the Representory. The Delegates can and do make laws that are added into the legal code of individual provinces, rather than the national legal code. This can only be done with the support of at least two of the delegates from the province that the laws are being applied to, as well as a majority of the 27 delegates.    The Representory is responsible for drafting national laws, that are then reviewed and either approved or denied by the House of Delegates. While the majority of national laws are drafted by the Representory, they are restricted on matters of the military and the other branches of government. The Representory is not permitted to draft laws regarding military action, with that power being held by the king alone, or draft laws regarding the executive branch or foreign relations. However, on matters of taxes, the economy, and other internal affairs, the Representory is given permission to draft legislation. Legislation may pass the Representory by a majority of the representatives voting in favour of it.    Most laws can be vetoed by the king, however, the king cannot veto any provincial law in the House of Delegates that has the support of all three delegates from the province that it applies to, as well as the support of the governor in writing, and has passed the House with a majority, or a law that has been approved by a super-majority in both the House and Representory, and with 5 of the 9 governors supporting it in writing.
Judicial Body
Unomia has a robust system of courts in place. Judges are appointed by either the king or governor, depending on whether or not the judge is being appointed to a provincial or national position. Judges have the final say on all manners of civil and criminal cases, and the king cannot veto a court decision. The king can, however, make a ruling on a judicial decision without the courts provided the courts have not already made a decision. If this happens, then the courts cannot veto the king's decision
Executive Body
The executive branch of the government is ruled solely by the king. He can appoint ministers to assist him in administration, however, all national measures of government are under the king's perview. The king also has full control over the military and the police forces.
