Karasi

It was only ten years ago when Karasi was on the brink of collapse.

An ancient, dying empire that was already losing ground to Cactsia in the Expansion War, it was only when the inventor Faheem Baral discovered the secrets of black powder and devised the use of firearms, their fortune has completely turned around.

The scars of an empire in decline still show, but the revival of Karasi as a center of scientific innovation has brought a renaissance into the city.

Structure

Karasi is run by a seat of seven faction leaders - known as the Bellahan - who maintain a balance for all the different groups among the citizenry through vigorous discourse and argument. It may be a peaceful country, but there is a saying amongst the populace if something is taking an arduous, extended period of time to be completed: "It has been sent to the Bellahan's floor."

Generally, each faction leader is given precedence over one canton (county), with administrative buildings in any cities of large enough size that fall under the jurisdiction of another faction leader.

The current faction leaders are:

  • Faheem Baral (male; gnome)
  • Ishani Singh (female; red dragonborn)
  • Kailash Quitari (male; elf)
  • Shazi Mishra (female; blue dragonborn; iridescent scales)
  • Jai Bharucha (male; aarakocra)
  • Avan Jaisi (male; high elf)
  • Calico Debna (female; dwarf)

Since the start of the renaissance, Karasi has become a melting pot as people have poured into the country with hopes for them and their family's future. As a result, the country is very diverse and the breakdown on race and faith is nebulous at best.
