Kingdom on the Brink - Session 40

General Summary

Prologue
Nine figures surround a table, the table has an ornate map with small figures on it. “So siblings, that wasn’t the worst outcome we projected.....” The figure Removes an airship and a halfling wizard and a female revenant with ghostly figures around her and places them next to two noble figures, a noble looking dragonborn paladin, an arcane looking half-elf and an elvish wizard. “indeed” says another, “but we knew this could happen” a tiefling with a flying broom and a dwarf with a warhammer and shield are removed and placed in Lakeshore. “What of our Elvish assassin?”, another figure speaks up “She’s out of the immediate picture, but still has potential”, the elf is picked up off the board and placed to the side. “We’ve set the focal point and have guided proven quantities back and promising individuals to converge on the location.” A dwarf wizard, Human Paladin, and monk get moved to Strongfare, “What of the masked monk? And is it wise to bring the other Pregalon into this?” another figure responds “The masked monk is unknown at the moment, it could be held up by the wilds, they are a fickle lot. As for the Pregalon I think we don’t have a choice, the distraction is behind us, we need to go all in. With the tiefling and dwarf out of the picture we need to rebuild, the elemental is also an unknown at this point. I think we can count on the eldritich knight.” A Masked monk, a tough looking halfling, an eldritich knight, and a genasi get put next to the elvish assassin. “What of our opponents? What is their layout?” another figure moves towards the map. “The hydra and the immediate horde are dealt with, the lich is another issue.” the figure moves the lich to Highsummit. “Ironically while his defeat didn’t bring his demise it did disorganize our enemy.” A regal figure in black robes is removed and placed next to the noble dragonborn. “but it also caused some complications, did it not? Further fractured the nobility?” A human looking to be in their early 40s with brown hair and noble looking clothes is removed from Highsummit. “Yes it did indeed complicate things, but that’s the situation we have before us. Let’s get to work.”

During the 25 days Gareth was finding out more about Nadranth, he asks the Kobolds and finds out more of the lore that official sources might not publish. He finds out several of the nine dragons true physical form perished during the fight to imprison Nadranth. Uriel is on a mission to bring back his clan, by strategically wooing women and casting ceremony to impregnate them, in the hopes that the Dragon marked will once again walk on Menorith. Del Varis kept to himself, helping rebuild (among other things), Rosemary continued on into her journey of becoming part of the guild of mercenaries.
It is the 5th day of Leranth


The party arrives at the meeting area and begin to discuss what brought them together, realizing the kobolds had requested them. A kobold meets them and thanks them for meeting them, and leads them to a Stonehenge outside the city where they met with the kobold chieftain and cleric. They're leaving the city due to concerns for their safety and want to higher the party to help to ensure the safety of their caravan. Uriel summons his horse and the party sets out to clear the path. They come across a Bone Devil, Bone Collective, and Deathlock Mastermind and the party casts bless, Emboldening bond, Haste, and Bladesong. Rosemary moves up and uses channel divinity to turn the bone collective away and it begins to flee, the Deathlock Mastermind moves closer and fires off a grave bolt which restrains Rosemary and the Bone Devil starts to close the distance. Uriel attempts to viciously mock the Bone Devil but fails, Duromar speeds past Uriel and engages the Deathlock, the Deathlock casts Arms of Hadar (Which Duromar fails to counterspell) but is partially resisted by Duromar. Uriel and Rosemary engage the Bone Devil in melee, Duromar disengages away from the Deathlock to overwhelm the Bone Devil, the Deathlock continues to hurl Grave Bolts into the party but isn't enough to save the Bone Devil. The party strikes the Bone Devil down and move towards the Deathlock, having him surrounded the Deathlock attempts to cast Arms of Hadar but is counter-spelled by Duromar, the Deathlock doesn't last much longer and the Bone Collective to continues to flee. The section of path is cleared and the party goes to check on the caravan, they rest and heal their wounds then continue on to clear the next section of the path.

The party discovers more enemies, a Bone Swarm and two Rot Trolls, and prepare to engage. The enemy group moves up and begins to dodge while the party buffs themselves and close the distance. Uriel and Rosemary are the first to get into melee, Rosemary strikes several times with her Quarterstaff and finds the Bone Swarm to be exceptionally Brittle, but the Bone Swarm retaliates by engulfing both Uriel and Rosemary (Uriel takes damage as the swirling bones bludgeon him). Duromar moves up and uses dimension door to free Rosemary from the Bone Swarm, then he uses his hasted action to attack and unleash a Firebolt. One of the Rot Trolls engages Uriel and manages to land all their attacks, Uriel returns the favor and unleashes a smite on the troll. The fight degenerates into a melee as the party trades blows and smites for claws and swirling bones from the Bone Swarm, after not using fire damage for a turn the Trolls use Rancid Degeneration (affecting each creature within 5 feet). Duromar switches tactics and casts fireball, incinerating the Bone Swarm, and stopping the rancid degeneration of the trolls for a short time. Rosemary uses her channel divinity to heal the party and summons her spiritual weapon into the fight, which critically hits the troll. Uriel uses his conquering presence to frighten one of the trolls and reduces its speed to 0, the frightened troll manages to take a bite out of Uriel. Del Varis moves up and manages to stun the other Troll, Duromar unleashes another fireball to stop the Rancid Degeneration again. The Rot Trolls have sustained much damage at this time and between the frightened and stunned conditions the party finishes them off, With Rosemary critically hitting one with her Quarterstaff. Rosemary casts Beacon of Hope and the party tends to their wounds, Gareth catches up with the group and reports the Kobold caravan is handling itself well. The party proceeds to clear out the final portion of the path.

The party finds a Corpse Mound, Greater Ghast, and a Herald of Undeath (attempting to hide in ambush), the Herald shouts at the party, saying how its master is looking forward to seeing them. The enemy moves up and dodges and the party becomes bonded by Rosemary and quickly closes the distance, Duromar is at the front so the Herald of Undeath unleashed a Ray of Annihilation which critically strikes Duromar. Duromar responds by casting Steel Wind Strike, hitting the Corpse Mound and Greater Ghast and also Critically striking the Herald of Undeath (12d10 force damage).The Enemy focuses their attention on Duromar (all of their attention), the Herald of Undeath manages to critically hit Duromar again, but at this point the rest of the party caught up. Del Varis expends his entire action to heal most of Duromar's wounds and Gareth launches his Javelin of Lightning into the Herald, striking the Corpse mound as well, he then moves into melee of the Corpse Mound. Uriel, Rosemary, and Del Varis focus on the Ghast, landing several strikes, Duromar upcasts Scorching Ray and fires the seven rays into the Herald (all hitting). The Ghast takes several swipes at Rosemary while Corpse Mound slams Gareth, the Herald move and takes a swipe at Gareth with its scythe. Del Varis moves up and heals Gareth while Uriel positions himself to launch a Javelin of Radiance into all three enemies, striking down the Herald and greatly damaging the Ghast. The party focuses on the Ghast and finishes it off and then move on to the Corpse mound, striking it down with a mighty smite. The party reports back to the Kobolds.

Duromar and Gareth go to try out some Iguana and try Kobold Moonshine, Rosemary and Uriel receive their payment from the Suhkba and Vogs. As they hand over the tooth they warn Uriel about why they left, the Order of the Dragon has been watching them and spreading rumors to harm their reputation. They tell her to be careful about who sees that tooth, as it's a tooth from Sirlith, The wise true draconic form, from the same skeleton they guard. The party long rests in the camp for the night, Uriel helps train some of the Kobolds, in the morning the party discusses what they should do next. During this discussion the Royal Bralorian Couriers rides up and gives Duromar a message, Duromar gives the courier a message back and thanks him after reading the correspondence. Duromar explains it's from House Valeros and asks the party to join him, it seems the late Runsha's activities might be connected to some other situations in the kingdom. The party returns to Strongfare to get provisions and decide the best route is to go through the Lakecliff Ruins.
