Letter from the Surface

Rikica's eyes scanned the small picture one more time, smirking silently. Small painting has such vivid colors that the faint glow of the glowing crystals barely made justice. It was a picture from a street, sky dotted by stars, he understood, though he had never really seen how the real deal looked like, so he couldn't comment on the accuracy of it. He put the picture gently next to other ones, reading the letter one more time. The familiar form of letters made him pause, as he took in the words written in the smooth paper, made from trees above.

Bitterness visited his face as he leaned to the stone wall, gentle glow of the crystals coloring the space blue and green. The scratching, clicking sound got to his ears, and he reached to take a piece of meat he had brought with him. Absentmindedly he tossed it towards the sound, hearing the chomb and scitter.

He took a blank piece of paper and his quill, sighing, but for once… he wasn't sure how to start his letter, even less so when he realized the book he had chosen as a writing pad. He had figured that Dragoness's book was safer here than were mother and sisters might have seen it. He bit his lip, and now, when no one was making a judgment of it, he tried to smell it, if some of the elusive scent of his… a confusing acquaintance would have stuck to the cover. Sadly, no, it hadn't and that made him feel a bit sour. He put the book aside and decided to use another as a pad instead, so he wouldn't ruin the lady's book when she would want it back.

If she would want it back and hadn't found anything more exciting to do.

Snapping and cracking came closer, he could almost feel the feet close to him. "Another snack? Shouldn't you go off hunting, if you are hungry?" Rikica chatted, even when he knew his companion wouldn't reply or understand his words. He looked up to the beast, that was curious about the book. Maybe it could smell the scent he himself was unable to. "Shoo, off you go,'' he told, tossing another snack for the beast that crunched the meat and vanished in dead silence.

He sighed, pressing the blank paper against his chest. "It would be too good to be true, wouldn't it?"

Beast didn't reply, as it shouldn't. Rikica closed his eyes and huffed, as his breath echoed in the walls.
