Odile Swann
Princess Odile Swann
Related Character Bio
Allegedly fearing for her daughter's safety during the War of the Six and following Hazdahn Raids, Ellyria Mopatis sent Odile to become a ward of Seresha Jaqen in 420 AC, as Ellyria had become an avid supporter of the Lorathi Senator and the Daughters of Lorath. From the very moment Odile arrived in Lorath, Seresha has proven to be fiercely protective of her. And in turn, Odile quickly became Seresha's shadow, coming to view the senator as a beloved elder sister, practically always seen by her side. Since Seresha's appointment as Governor of Limaosy and Lorash, Odile has inadvertently become a part of Seresha's administration. As Seresha once served her late father, so too does Odile serve Seresha as her assistant. A position she has proven quite able in. Odile reads her official reports from the colonies, sits in and records the minutes for important meetings, and even helps Seresha keep track of her daily duties. She perhaps knows more of Lorathi customs and culture than her own at this point. Doubly so for Lorathi governance. Due to her background, Odile and Seresha have faced some barbs from Leviathan Senators and the more hawkish citizens in Lorathi's mainland. After learning of her Westerosi ancestry, Odile has even mockingly been called 'the Swan Maiden', an underhanded reference to the Andal monsters that once preyed on unsuspecting men. But the Daughters of Lorath have done their best to shield both women from their vitriol, and openly treat Odile as one of their own. When she is pressed to, her singing at some of their gatherings has won her admiration from many, further building her reputation as a talented songstress (along with her parent's legacy of the 'Blackbirds'). As her age and beauty grows, so too do the number of suitors and requests for her hand, to Seresha's chagrin. As she herself is quite familiar to that predicament, being the sole daughter of Qarlon Jaqen. Few ever make Odile's acquaintance through Seresha's intervention, though those that do are treated courteously by the lady. Though her appearance takes very strongly after her mother, the only other thing Odile perhaps shares with her is a love of art and culture. For in truth, mother and daughter could not be more different. Odile is a paragon for many young maidens, as she is polite, demure, and empathetic over all else. She abhors arguments and conflict, and quickly shies away from the more heated debates that take place in Seresha's occupation. Despite Seresha's care, Odile is often still said to have a sad look in her eyes, a trait many claimed she shares with her father, the Black Swan. Many speculate why Ellyria has not called for Odile to return home, as the young lady has long since come of age. The maiden herself sometimes even questioning if her mother ever cared for her or her siblings to begin with. But regardless of the why, such a time may be coming soon, as Seresha's opponents in the Senate may put Odile in the midst of their many schemes, especially with Lorath finally taking actions abroad.Family Ties
