Princess Odette Swann

Related Character Bio

Allegedly fearing for her daughter's safety during the War of the Six and following Hazdahn Raids, Ellyria Mopatis sent Odette to become a ward of a Lysene magister in 420 AC, as Ellyria had become a close friend of theirs while discussing their purportedly mutual interests. From the time Odette's boat first arrived on that magister's shore however, the oddities have never ceased. Their party started out three. A crone, a matron, and a maiden. The first to leave was the crone. An old septa tasked with caring for Odette. Who had fled in terror from the household after naught but a week of residing there. The second to leave was the matron. A lady mercenary tasked with guarding Odette. Who left the tower after her year-long contract ended, refusing the magister's offer to extend it, citing the insanity within.   Which left the maiden, young Odette, alone with her unusual host. But this was perhaps for the best, as the young girl took keenly to her new guardian, and in the knowledge they held. And the magister took great interest in her, as they finally had someone to entertain. Everything the magister spoke of was novel to the young lady, and the answers they shared were answers she felt impossible to refute. She quickly took to becoming their unspoken protege, absorbing all her new mentor deigned to share.   The relationship is one currently of benefit to both parties. Where it might eventually lead master and apprentice is anyone's guess. When the magister is forced to travel abroad, they even put enough faith in the girl to entrust them with their study. An honor Odette greatly appreciates, as she peruses it with a voracious appetite. She balks at no subject within, nor specimen studied, arriving at questions that leave even her host pondering at times. Her time is often shut indoors, with only candlelight by her side. The lack of social interaction has left her with some peculiar tendencies, and surely most of her hosts' eccentricities. The only person outside the household she speaks with is her mother, who sends her and her host the occasional oddity from time to time. Though her isolation is likely for the best, as only six people in the world currently know of her residence in Lys. Not even Lys' esteemed First Magister is aware Odette is harbored within his very own borders. The idea of which something her host is apparently very keen to.   Though Odette inherits an aquiline nose and dark auburn hair from her mother, her pale, youthful complexion are surely from her father, a feature only further exacerbated by her inordinate time spent indoors. She notably possesses her mother's inquisitive nature, never ceasing her endless pursuit to sate her curiosity. And in contrast to that, she too possesses her father's lesser-known cynicism, though Odette seldom questions what she hears any longer, as the answers received seem to be the world's inexplicable truth. Odette's education from the Lyseni has been anything but orthodox, but nonetheless, it stokes her desire to learn night and day, earning the man her devoted time and attention.   Though Ellyria has not called upon her daughter to return to her side, Odette does not mind that fact, nor would she in fact accept it, as she has fallen prey to a much a higher calling: academia. Though with Lys meddling in so many affairs, its most powerful patrons may soon be forced to pay the price for it, with Odette's host being one of them.
