Stormlanders Ethnicity in Master of the Wind | World Anvil

Stormlanders

Located in the far west of the Island Sea, the Stormlanders live in a small series of Sky Islands that are constantly battered by storms. The harsh winds have cut them off of most of civilization, as only Thread Walkers dare to visit the islands, and even those rarely do so.   The Stormlanders have made do with their hostile environment. Most of their belongings are located underground, and they build sturdy constructions to prevent their farms from blowing away. They have little to no timber, due to the windy weather, making it incredibly hard for them to construct Sky Ships. Strangely enough, it doesn't appear that they consider themselves trapped. They are actually satisfied with their harsh lives.   Some Skyfarers tell strange stories about the Storm Lands, such as the presence of massive stone pillars with strange engraved symbols, old abandoned buildings that seem religious, and the fact that some of its inhabitants just make windlike sounds at each other. Most consider this just idle gossip and strong tales, while others have decided it might be better not to visit. And of course because truthfulness of stories cannot be easily verified, there is plenty a braggart that   It should be noted that while the Stormlanders are secluded and enjoy that fact, they still are very welcoming to visitors. While trading options aren't great, they still are a nice safe stop for someone with no other place left to go. But they will not explain their peculiarities, and have enough weapons around to counter any hostile acts with extreme violence. This, combined with the storms, have prevented their islands from being overmined for Cloudstone.
