Religious Views

Irian followed his own interpretation of the Demian faith which tied in to his philosophy of Irianism. Irian believed that gods were of the same substance as mortals and as such were no more worthy of respect than other great mortals, hence the true worth of the gods came from their ideals. This means that a mortal championing better ideals than a god were more worthy of respect than the gods themselves and as such the gods did not need to be worshiped at all, merely studied and imitated in ways that would benefit society and the individual. This philosophy caused a great deal of friction within the religious and academic scenes in Demia and many believe that Irianism is responsible for the emphasis on prayer within modern Demian religion, working as a push-back against the idea that the gods were unimportant as entities but only as ideas.
