Diac óm Fúrsá

Lac Diac óm Fúrsá

"And how could the foreigners possibly know what is best for us on our island? Did their fathers' fathers walk its forests, mountains, and beaches as ours did? Do their holy men commune with its spirits? Do they know the clans that have guided our people for generations?"
— Diac óm Fúrsá on the increased foreign interest in Isobrach
Diac óm Fúrsá is the current leader for the Fúrsá Clan on the island of Isobrach. As the leader of the deeply traditional clan, Diac is seen by many as the primary voice in favor of isolation in the new debate.

Personal history

Early Life
Diac was born to the previous Lac, his father Tanús óm Fúrsá. Diac had two older brothers, Lian and Kaenol, an older sister, Bril, and a younger sister, Midia. As the youngest of three boys, Diac was not expected to succeed his father as Lac, but he was nonetheless prepared for the possibility. In his early childhood he was taught to speak properly and taught games of skill and chance. In his preteens he was taught to read and write and to fight with swords, spears, and bows. In his teen years he began hands on courtly training; learning the formalities of governance, the table of ranks, and the ancient histories of his clan. Diac took a particular interest in the clan history and their exploits across the centuries.   Diac and his brother Kaenol became very close as they felt a special kinship over living in their older brother Lian's shadow. They would often go on extended hunting trips together and play wargames with other noble-born of similar age.
  First Plague
In the summer of 541 LE, a new disease began to rage across Isobrach. The disease surged throughout the various clan territories, reaching Agala only days after news that it was spreading. The population of the city was laid low with the disease. The priests declared that it was a plague from the spirits and that they would commune with them to see what evil the people did to bring this suffering upon them. Unlike most minor disease break outs, the upper classes were no less fortunate than the lowly peasantry when it came to catching and surviving the disease. Diac's brother Lian was among those unfortunates who was brought down by the disease and the family mourned heavily. Lac Tanús had also contracted the disease but managed to survive it, leading many to attribute his survival to the spirits' blessing on his rule and family line. This faith the people had in their leader, along with Tanús' own pragmatic attitude, led to Clan Fúrsá's lands being in better shape than their neighbors, something Tanús took advantage of when the worst of the plague passed by grabbing any disputed territory from the rival Clan Iag .
Arrival of Foreigners and Second Plague
Years after the difficult task of rebuilding from the ruins of the first plague, a sense of normality had more or less returned to the island. Diac began to focus more on his family, beginning his daughter Saua's formal education. His son Darik was also born in the period following the first plague.
