Rostral Breeze

Rostral Breeze is a recreational narcotic inhalant. It is produced by the steeping of various herbs and fungi endemic to Rostral C and chilling the resulting brew in a water well; this mixture is then inhaled either by concentration, perfume atomizer, or special inhaler. Rostral Breeze has the effect of cooling the respiratory tract of the user, inducing sweat, and producing a sensation of mild euphoria reminiscent of alcohol intoxication. Most Rostrans in their home territories enjoy doses of Rostral Breeze from time to time, especially in the summer months.
While Rostral Breeze use is especially pleasant in the hot summers of the Rostral Tesseract, where anything that can be used to escape the heat is embraced enthusiastically, the drug can induce psychological addiction, withdrawals (in the form of heat stroke from failing to adapt to the weather) and, with long-term use, chronic lung damage. Overdoses are rare and typically occur because an unwary user mistakes a batch of Rostral Breeze for a beverage. Symptoms of overdose include profuse sweating, numbness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, poor coordination, ataxia, slurred speech, unconsciousness, and (rarely) death.

Manufacturing process

The ingredients are allowed to steep and ferment in a cool, dark place. It is important that the distilled water component of the mixture is allowed to cool somewhat before being applied to the other ingredients, since boiling temperatures can break down the useful compounds in the sweat caps. After the fermentation process is complete, the mixture is filtered and some of the water is allowed to evaporate, leaving the drug behind as a light green fluid.
Once the drug is brewed, it is traditionally cooled by lowering it into the damp darkness of a water well before use. In modern times, as advances in technology have made refrigeration more commonplace, cooling the brew artificially has become more commonplace as well. The chilled liquid is put into the user's inhalation device of choice so that it can be taken into the body.

Rostral Breeze is sold semi-openly in the territories controlled by the Rostran Archipelago Confederacy and Hermitage Island Fellowship. Sale of the drug is illegal in Voxelia, the Free Faces League, or the Commonwealth of C. No restrictions on the use or purchase of Rostran Breeze exist in the Manifold Conservation Society due to the drug's perceived nature as an entheogen for Rostrans. Rostran Breeze can be considered a implement of torture in Petalcap Vale due to the cold environments of that locality, and is otherwise not legal to import due to the potential risk of invasive species from the ingredients.

Raw materials & Components

To begin the manufacturing process, water is distilled into a bottle containing various cool-tasting herbs, including wintergreen, a local fungus (known as a "sweat cap" for it's ability to induce sweating when consumed), brewing yeast, and a small amount of sugar or honey. It is believed that the sweat cap may also be the source of the drug's intoxicating effects, though the alcohol produced during the brewing process might also be responsible.
