The infinite snake Building / Landmark in Manarchy | World Anvil

The infinite snake

The name was allegedly proposed by a Frostbrand member of the Syndicate and became a overall default name for the installation. It ressembles a lot of the myth of the serpent eating itself, as traveling in there without clear intent may put you in a spiral and doubt your own sense of orientation.

Purpose / Function

The infinite snake is the main base of operation for the Syndicate, which is where main black market affairs, shady dealings, forgery offers and illegal gambling, including pit fights, are offered. This offer the syndicate a direct view and secure way to do their actions inside the city without having rivals or law-bringers meddling in.

History

Back from a long slumber, Tofakvolt noticed the top of it's lair had actually been the starting point of a large city over him. Uncertain on how the actual strength of the humanoids was, and prefering to go a more safe route than going directly on looting the place, Tofakvolt had another idea: thanks to it's power, he started to create an underground settlement, and started to meddle with the city in it's free time, scouting their forces, actual people of influences, and riches while passing as a human.   Once a clear vision of it's plan settled, (character) started to recruit henchmen to create a thieve's guild. By promises and manipulation, or just pure showcase of might, it managed to gain the loyalty of some of the members of the city's underbelly. Over time, Tofakvolt expanded the underground lair to ease the placement of ressources.

Tourism

Most of the tourist are people eager to indulge in private vices, as the lair is some sort of the red light district of the city. Prostitution, gambling are most of the tourist's interest, but the biggest attraction is the Pit Of Expendable, an illegal fighting ring were the losers are sacrificed for the entertainment of many. Most of the fight remains however fair in some extent, and not just plain slaughters. Desperate people can volunteer to partake in the ring, and a special reward is offered to those that can manage to reach ten victories. The reward is not known to the public, but some rumors the guild's leader offers a mark of his powers to the fighters and usually are considered members of the guild this way.
