The Everending Scorch

The Everending Scorch was the last piece of art made by artist Sylvao Benediti before his demise and suicide. It was a stained glass art work commissioned by Queen Raviel II under her reign and during the first years of the [Raviel Mass Magicide].   The work was the 4th of a batch commission of 5 stained glassworks ordered by the Queen herself. The original deal was to portray different key moments of the queen's reign. Over time, Sylvao was under mental angst, having a severe depression and other related symptoms. When he was ordered the first three works, he over time noticed the dark side of the queen's reign, which digged the rock bottom mood he was plagued of. Gradually, he made his pieces having hints of a reversible figure in them to portray the true nature of what he was supposed to create. Raveil noticed it at the 3rd piece, but refrained to punish the artist, to avoid raising more upset of her fist of steel reign. She however made share of her discontempt and menaced the talented man to avoid a bad representation of her.   Despite the ordeal on his mental health, Benediti tought quitting would be his final demise as his reputation would shatter from abandoning his art in progress. He continued to create his last piece, invaded by vivid and draining dream. Asked to be present for the grand presentation, he became a direct witness of [Raviel's Mass Magicide]. Knowing by his own reknown, he doomed the victims that Raviel II invited, he couldn't bear to witness his art had been a factor of his commissioner's legacy. He then commited suicide the night after, jumping from the tower he was inhabiting at the time into the sea. Nobody found the corpse and fearing remnants of his soul's wrath would remain, the guards purged his room by fire.   However, the "Everending scorch" had been tampered without anybody knowing but one person: the executionner Erik Deslandes. Knowing his own loyalty, bloodline legacy and desire for safety, he however didn't wanted the artifact to become a reliable power under bad hands. And when delivering the components to Benediti, Deslandes traded the queen's blood inside the vial for his to become the catalyst. Thanks to that, nobody of the royal family could have used the gate again without a presence of the Deslande treeline. This was discovered a generation later, as the royal family tried to use it again for judgment, but didn't managed to use them themselves. The secret remains in the Deslandes bloodline since then, as nobody suspected him.
