Windstrider Station Building / Landmark in Malgrave | World Anvil

Windstrider Station

Windstrider Station is a small building installed in Westfall around 150AT. It is the only location of the Windstrider Courier Service which boasts the fastest land delivery in all of Malgrave.

Description

The little station is nothing more than what looks like a single horse stall from a barn put on the side of the road. There is a small awning that protects a podium with a mail logbook that has a coin box and a letter slot beneath it. The inside has straw covering the floor that would otherwise be dirt with a dresser and drawing curtain.

Purpose

This little building serves as both the business and home of the centaur owner. It tends to get very little business and is barely enough to feed her as she has just started up.

The Business

The business and building belong to Desha Windstrider, an exiled centaur from her tribe that typically roams the southern plains of Colotan. Using her given speed and cheerful demeanor, her hope is to get enough business to live comfortably in the kingdom of Westfall due to its open policy on race acceptance.

History

Suffering an injury to her knee, Desha Windstrider found that she was no longer able to keep up with her tribe as thy migrated. Knowing Westfall was the most welcoming nation of the lands of Colotan, she settled there in hopes of making a new life for herself rather than being a burden to her own people. With little but her speed to fall back on, Desha was unsure of where she could fit in until she realized how vast the territories of Westfall were. With the kingdom taking up nearly a third of the entire landmass, she decided she would open a courier service once her knee healed as best it could. Thus when the time came, the Windstrider Courier Service began.

A pick for my Summer Camp Reading Challenge! I love the idea of the centaur shunned from her tribe reinventing herself as a courier, a brilliant idea for a character. I can see a whole story and arc building up around Desha. Very well done.
