Wahi Kao

Wahi Kao is a Triton city located in the Anue Sea. It is the second largest Triton city in all of Malgrave.

Description

Within the Tavolozza Reef lies the city of Wahi Kao. It is the sister city to Lemistis and was founded when the population became too much for its resources in Lemistis. It is run by an emperor or empress with their senate council and war advisors. The city itself is bright and colorful due to the surrounding tropical reef. Much of the architecture is of master craftsmenship, lovingly carved from single masses of solid stone. The columns and pillars alongside the buildings are reminiscent of Olympian design, most likely inspired by the gods their culture worships. There is a growing mixture of tribal practices making its way into the culture, due to their tropical neighbors and allies. The city itself consists of a city center call the Agora Colonnade, several suburb type districts a little further from the main city with the Honor's Call Colosseum at the heart of Wahi Kao.

Agora Colonnade

All commerce and politics are handled here, along with the colleges the city has to offer for its artisans and maestros. Few actually live in the main part of the city but all converge here for business and duties within the city.

• Piscene Senate: A series of buildings for the leadership of Wahi Kao to meet depending on what the matter of discussion is.

• Honoa Markets: The center of all commerce in Wahi Kao. Any good the people have for trade will be found here.

• Maven Colleges: All manner of arts are offered for those who wish to learn or teach. It is often considered a bard's college, but it offers all manner of performing and creative expression beyond just music.

Resident Suburbs

Besides senators, councilors and the emporer or empress, all people of Wahi Kao live in the areas surrounding the main city. Each has their own community and social structure.

• Ocean Lord's Temple: A place of worship that welcomes any who follow gods of the sea. The most predominant figure of worship by the Tritons is Poseidon.

Honor's Call Colosseum

The biggest center of entertainment for locals and visitors alike. It focuses on feats of strength and combat and the intensity of the Tritons makes for an impressive sight. The Colosseum also serves as the barracks and training grounds for the army of Wahi Kao.

• Arena: Interchangeable between a gladiator arena and a chariot race track. It is rare to go a whole day without something happening here.

• Barracks and Training Grounds: Somehow even more brutal than the arena, those that join the Wahi Kao military are expected to be even greater warriors than gladiator champions. Wahi Kao's best warriors come from here.

• Empress Pania: The current empress at the time of the visit of the Undesirables.

• Master Tritus: Mentor of Muzu and highly sought after battlemaster for tutilage of future warriors.

• Leviticus Quellenes: A Strom Giant that serves as a senator to the Emporer or Empress and Master of the Honor's Call Colosseum.

• Kuzu: Father of Muzu and both a leader of a shrine to Poseidon in one of the smaller suburbs and a member of the senate.

History

Founded late in the Age of Intelligence, Wahi Kao was founded by a great migration from Lemistis. Bringing much of their culture with them, they started to intermingle others as well from the surrounding Locathah and reef dwelling merfolk and sea elves. Incorporating rituals of strength along with their long standing martial discipline, the seemingly tribal Tritons that settled in the area have become something of a legendary force in the waters of Malgrave. Their population also started shifting to more colorful skin tones as they intermingled with the tropical merfolk around them. Tattoos and other adornments have made them the most colorful Tritons in Malgrave. This and their near brutal mastery of combat along with their intense focus on the Colleges has made them stand out more than their ancestral city.
They have long been on negative terms with the surrounding sahuagin. Raiders have frequently attacked the borders, only to be repelled by the Triton's superior warriors. As both populations grow, the attacks have continued to escalate throughout the centuries.
