Sivak sign language is a form of communication developed by the silver dragonborn of Malgrave. It is common enough for approximately half the clan to be proficient in it.
History
The Sivak Clan of dragonborn are the most militant of all dragonborn clans in Malgrave. Their constant state of war between other nations has left nearly every member with a lasting scar. Whether it is a throat wound, or going deaf from thunder based spells being used in the mountain tunnels they defend, there are several Sivak members that need another form of communication. This is compounded by their home, the
Argentum Bastian, being set up in the
Dreaming Grove. Many have been tricked into losing their voice by the mischievous fey creatures around them.
Because of these factors, hand gestures were developed as a way for these people to be able to communicate. Many of these eventually became very subtle so that they could be used on the battlefield, giving and receiving orders without giving away their location or alerting their enemies to their plans. Whether they themselves are unable to communicate comfortably verbally, or the high likelihood that they know someone else that can't, it is a very widely used in the Sivak Clan.
There is no true author of this form of communication. It started as gestures for other members to guess, with the quickest to be deciphered and the most recognizable being shared between others until there was enough to make the entire draconic language in sign language.
