Dropboxes are a recently developed method of fast transport of letters between two locations. It is primarily used between allied nations and not general puplic use.

Development

Originally this was an attempt between Sivak Toy'wl and Achauk Gahl'tex, two artificers, to create a way to send love letters to each other over long distances. While they were easily able to create Sending Stones, the limitations grew frustrating as they were impatient with courier services taking weeks or months to deliver and return their letters to each other. Over the course of a few years, they tried to develope a method to teleport small items to each other. As they worked, they were having difficulty sending heavier and more complex things as there wasn't the space for the normal inscriptions used for teleportation spells. When they finally got it working, they weren't able to send much besides parchment through, the process of sending stripping magic from anything that was teleported. The two decided to sell some to leaders of the world as a means for emergency contact between allies, setting aside the funds to buy a home and start a family together.

How It Works

Two small boxes get paired with an incantation. From there the inner linig of each box is transcribed with a modified version of a teleportation spell. When done properly, a small, simple object can be placed in the box and when the lid closes, if the lid of the paired box is also closed it will be instantly transported to the second box and a small gem on the latch will light up, indicating that something has been received. Each box can send and receive an unlimited times in a day. Each box can only be linked to one box, making it so that people must have several if they wish to communicate with more than one person.
