Thanterra

Thanterra, also known as the "Land of Death" or the "Demi-plane of Death" is an extra dimensional layer closely tied to the Astral Plane that serves as a conduit from the Material Plane to the various final resting places of recently deceased souls.  Most souls pass through Thanterra on their way to planes tied to their personal religion or alignment while some relinquish themselves into the hands of Empterion. A rare few, however, settle in specialized locales within Thanterra, hidden away from powers of life and death.
