Empterion

(a.k.a. Emptyrion)

Empterion is the God of Death and the Underworld; the reaper of souls. He thrives on the loss of life, as it brings him more souls for his kingdom, thus increasing his power. He is the ruler of the Emerald Tower in Great Viridium in the heart of Thanterra, the land of death. He cares little for events on Malatoria, as long as the supply of souls is continuous. In cases of peacetime, Empterion has 5 potent servants on the world – the magical blades known as the Nails of Empterion.   Empterion is also the god of undead monsters. It was he who allowed Dagrazt to attain his lich-like form, and he has been pleased with the results. Empterion is the most powerful of the evil gods. Empterion is also the Lord of Kilth, a lesser god also known as, “the Divine Assassin”. Kilth was once a powerful assassin and priest who so devoutly followed the black ways of the Lord of Death that he was given a position at his god’s side. Although Empterion does not allow Kilth to have followers, there are rumors of small bands of Assassins dedicated to his worship.   Empterion is often depicted as a black cowled figure with green trim. He is represented by many symbols most prevalently an hourglass, scales or a circle with a line through it, also referred to as the "Null".   His holy days occur with the cycles of the moon. Full moons are important, but less so than the nights of a new moon, when the sky is empty. Particularly important are lunar eclipses, when many sacrifices are made and deeds done in honor of the God of Death. Empterion favors blood-letting blades of all sorts, but particularly important in his rites are the special obsidian daggers.   Empterion’s holy book is The Book of Black Forever.
