Possessing the upper torso of a human and the hindquarters of a horse, centaurs made their migration to East Ymmaria during the height of the Ymmari Dynasty.
As a whole they are a generally shy and reclusive people and do not often mix into the company of other humanoids and demi humans.  A number of herds can be found along the Boundless Steppes, each with its own unique customs.  Many of the tribes live nomadically, building yurt like structures to protect them from more severe elements.  Some tribes are known to herd antelope and wild steppe buffalo, others are known as experts in falconry.  Others have great skill fashioning the long grasses into a hardened durable material for their weapons.
One group, the Grasswind Herd, played a key role in helping Shadow of Fire and Omori as they made their eastern journey across the Steppes.
