Session 1 - Leaving Day

General Summary

While the Festivities of the Leaving Day Celebration were prepared for, Daria, with the help of Barna and Zallah, discovered that her brother’s room was empty, having left the night before. Susan confirmed this, saying that he had left a brief note stating that he was leaving. Jedidiah circulated the crowd showing an old poster of Barry the Red, to see if anyone recognized him - unsuccessfully. Eventually the adventurers gathered in the hall of the OG school where their mentors passed on gifts and advice; A map, 2 vials of holy water, 2 potions of moderate healing, a diamond, a bag of coin, and a set of enchanted bracelets which would allow the wearer to cast sending to someone with a matching stone - and which were also enchanted to alert the wearers should any of them be in danger of death. Maur explained that, under the suggestion of Vy an event had been arranged for later in the day - a show of skill against an illusionary enemy. After the meeting with their mentors the party spread out to experience the day and participate in activities. They enjoyed TOFFEE APPLES! - Prestidigitated by Maur, and arm wrestled Nigel and Zhim defeated the trickier than it looks rope bridge with style before Daria and Zalah noticed that tug of war was being set up.
The party teamed up against Susan, Rush and four students - until Jedidiah intimidated the group, leading to the addition of the seven foot tall Firbolg Adarvan to the mix. With Magpie swooping Susan as a distraction, the party were able to drag their mentors (and a few disheartened students) into the mud.
The group then watched a puppet show about Blunderbuss Jones - Flint joyfully watching from the front row - as Blunderbuss Jones and her companion Elenore Swan climbed a mountain to confront a necromancer king, falling through the planes and fighting their way free to defeat him and claim his crown. Adarvan guessed it may be a Pythian story.
Zhim, while talking to a trader learned that flocks of Bloodhawks have been attacking livestock in Gaanoor, killing half a dozen only a few weeks ago.
The rest of the group, meanwhile had planned for their upcoming illusionary fight, developing a dramatic storyline in which Flint would be revealed from the crowd to save the day, just at the point of utter disaster.
As the village gathered to watch behind the oak Dougie addressed the crowd, expressing the pride of their mentors, and theorising that the group would travel the world, doing good deeds, fighting monsters and may one day fight the essence of fire itself.
Maur then summoned an illusionary dragon, wowing the crowd of onlookers (particularly the children) as the group ‘fought’ the fearsome beast, ‘dodged’ its fiery breath, climbed and leaped from the tree, and eventually begun to fall before it, Flint revealed himself from the crowd and killed the dragon in a single shot and it disolved into fireworks and glitter.
After receiving congratulations, including from a deeply amused Bedrik Bouldergate, the group began planning. After discussion they decided to head to a port town, where they could find a ship to Pythia. They decided to head north and take the logging track towards Rivercross. Realizing that they would likely need coin to pay for passage (around 12gp each) they decided to travel to Gaanoor and see if the situation with the bloodhawks could earn them coin. After a final vote they determined they would head to Gaanoor taking the longer, but safer journey along the roads.
After leaving Oakengate behind, and spending time together talking on the road, Zhim noticed the weather turning, and the group picked up the pace, to take shelter from the rain at the logging camp to the north of town. They found one of the longhouses empty, lit a fire and settled in for the night. While there, Zallah opened her pack and discovered a mouse that Barna had placed inside it.
