Ereish

The Kingdom of Ere is a unique blend of a tribal and feudal society formed out of what once was an island settled by Bibracte tribes living in isolation. Like their neighbor in Doggerland it was an invasion that joined the tribes together and forced them to slowly but surely adopt a more modern society. As a people the ereish personality is described as quiet, stubborn, and determined but when their passions run you will find none more fierce than the men and woman of Ere.

Appearance

One sign of Ereish breeding is a husky build, even the tallest folk from Ere have short legs and long torsos by comparison with a heavy husky frame. Round faces have thin, pale lips, round eyes, thick brows, and long narrow noses that end in bulbous tips. Most people in Ere have light brown or sandy blonde hair but they are famous for the bright red hair that a significant amount of their population possess and notable for men's body hair to be orange or red color even if the hair on their head doesn't match, an ereish man with black hair could sport a coppery red beard. Skin tones range from pale to a slight sandy color and their eyes can be almost any color with none seeming to be more common than others.

Family names

Like the nords, ereish surnames are patronymic in nature. While both genders share the same last names, they have different prefixes with different meanings. The men either have 'Ó' or 'Mac'. 'Ó' before a surname means 'grandson of' and 'Mac' means 'son of'. If the surname starts with a vowel, the prefix 'Ó' will cause a lowercase 'h' to be attached to the surname. So you either get 'Mac Earáin' or 'Ó hEaráin'.   It's slightly more complicated for women. Unmarried women will either have 'Ní' (daughter of the grandson of) or 'Nic' (daughter of the son of). However, if her surname starts with 'C' or 'G', the prefix will always be 'Nic'. Once a woman marries, she can choose to take her husband's surname with a new prefix. If his prefix is 'Ó', hers will be 'Uí' (wife of the grandson of), if his prefix is 'Mac', hers will be 'Mhic' (wife of the son of). However, if the husband's surname starts with either a 'G' or 'C', her prefix will always be 'Mhic'.
