Highland Targe

The targe is a lightweight, bespiked shield preferred by Ereish Highlanders as their only form of protection in battle. Targes are round shields made of oak wood with an iron boss, padded with straw, and wrapped in leather, then riveted together to make a sturdy but light shield. The thing that makes a targe remarkable is it's use as a close combat weapon thanks to the spike that protrudes from the shield's center boss.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The targe deals 1d6/piercing damage and has the following properties: Light Weapon, Special
Special: The targe provides a +2 bonus to AC and can be used as a light offhand weapon. The AC bonus overrides the bonus for the Dual Wielder feat. It's small size prevents it from working with Shield Master.

Significance

This is a cultural weapon for Ere and counts as a martial weapon for Ereish characters only. Ereish characters with martial weapon proficiency are trained to use this unique weapon. Anyone born outside of Ere may only learn this weapon by taking the Weapon Master feat.
