The Painted Wastes

Where Beauty Meets Danger.

Written by WDMichael

Introduction:

A beautiful landscape, similar to a painters canvas lies between the realms or Woreheim, and Lahar if only looked at from afar. The Painted Wastes is not an area that one wants to wander through as the dangers are numerous. Unfortunately, this land has taken a great many lives over the years as the beauty of the area has seduced many into its hazards.

Geography:

Pools of boiling water and chemicals burst through the ground trying to escape the heat from the volcanic activity below the surface. The pressure from the volcano pushes many minerals and chemicals from the center of Magmoia into the hot pools that fill The Painted Wastes. Chemicals and Minerals of varying colors dye the rocks and water in the area different colors from blue, green, yellow, red, orange, purple, black, white, and everything in-between. The bright colors sprawled out all over the land make it seem as if a giant had painted the ground hence the name the Painted Wastes. The most extraordinary events that occur here is when the great geysers burst into the air. The pent up energy blows the colored water high into the air making a dazzling display of colors like a burst from a rainbow.

Dangers of The Painted Wastes:

The Painted Wastes can lose much of its beauty when stuck venturing through the boiling wasteland. Blazing heat waves will blow through the area as volcanic air from deep in Magmoia seeps through cracks in the earth to heat the pools of water and chemicals. Tall spouts of boiling water filled with toxic acids shoot out of the ground with little warning, easily able to melt skin and flesh in minutes. Many of the chemicals that are sent airborne from the geysers are known to destroy the eyes in a person rendering them completely blind. Traveling through this beautiful yet dangerous wasteland can prove to be quite fatal.

Flora & Fauna:

With extreme heat, harsh chemicals, and constant volcanic earthquakes, not much grows or lives in this region. Most animals in this region use the pools as protection and tend to be quite small as to dodge the ever bursting spouts of water. Small fluorescent flowers grow around the ponds utilizing the minerals in the water to create their vibrant colors.
