The Hunting of Niss
Niss was a maiden of dreams, beautiful and youthful, and she often wandered among the mortal world. However, once, while she was out in the woods, the Huntsmen of the Gods, Yaneth found her, and chased her down, catching her in his net. He wounded her humiliated her, mangling her leg.
Summary
Niss was the daughter of Morjen and Haiine, and a maiden of dreams. She was hunted and hurt by Yaneth, and ensnared by his net. Her screams echoed through the woods, and into the realm of night, but Yaneth cut her throat with his hunting knife, and drained her blood. She closed her eyes, hoping to escape to her father's realm, and when she did, she ran weeping into his halls, and begged for his help, but he could not, for it was not in his power. However, her mother, Haiine gave her a knife of ice-steel, telling her that though the knife could not cut the net, if she drew blood from Yaneth, he would fall into a deep sleep. She took it, and was sent back. Yaneth had come closer to examine his victom, and she sliced his hand with the knife. He collapsed into sleep, and there Morjen waited for him. He was eager to exact vengeance upon the man who hurt his daughter, and inprisioned him in his deepest dungeon. Haiine gave him unsatiable hunger. In the mortal world, Niss crawled through the trees, still tangled in the net and bleeding. Aimas, her brother, came to her, and saw her plight. He sent a flight of bats her way, and she cought some and sucked their blood dry. Aimas came to the night realm and told his parents of Niss's state. Morjen came to Yaneth, and gave him an offer. He would release Yaneth if he released Niss. Yaneth refused, claiming he had rightfully captured her. For Nine nights, they remained. Niss cought in the net, and Yaneth in the prision until Sirane came for her brother. She shook the Night Realm with her power, and broke her brother's chains. Meanwhile, a large cat came for Niss, and freed her from the net. Yaneth returned to the mortal world, and Niss returned to the Night Realm, where she became a nightmare, and the goddess of primal fear. She needs to feed on blood in order to satisfy her and restore her strength, and enjoys haunting mortals, making them feel a small portion of her fear. A Nisscat follows her wherever she goes, and she hunts with a bloodt fang in her hand, and a limp in her gate.
