Mage Lyell (a.k.a. Maj'Andemir)
Physical Description
Lyell is tall and lanky, but deceptively graceful.
Noticable features include a tall stature and casual posture.
Gray eyes and brown hair, with a sharp nose.
He is prone to shrugging, smiling, and touching.
Lyell is a trained Mage, with an eclectic knowledge, but no specific area of focus.
He usually wears a handmade outfit: a white shirt that was stolen and then resewn to fit him, patched pants and leather boots, with a belted leather tunic. Over the top, he wears a gray cloak, with a hood made of felt or wool and leather gloves.
Lyell usually carries a hunting bow, a staff for unsteady terrain as well as fighting, and an assortment of knives and throwing stars. Inside his tunic are many pockets containing magical tools.
Mental characteristics
Lyell was born in poverty, living on the charity from strangers and family friends. His closest friend was Marcella Jager. At the age of ten, he was taken by the Majan wolf, Lupa, across the border into the old country and raised by Gwydion. There, he learned magic.
Uses the pronouns he/him.
Lyell was taught to read and write by Lilith Jager, but never attended a school. Later, he learned magic from Mages at the Temple of Lakle and from Gwydion. He was an avid learner, from wherever and whoever he could.
Lyell captured a pirate ship off the coast of Gae Hirach at the age of sixteen. After that, he spent a year in study at the Temple of Lekle, as an apprentice to the Guardian, but soon felt as if he could do more on his own. After that, he started a network of warriors and magic users dedicated to protecting settlements along the border from raids. At the age of nineteen, he received prophetic visions about an oncoming war, and a year later was close to casting a Suicide Curse. If he had, he would have been only the third Mage in history known to have cast the curse, but he changed his mind.
Lyell failed to protect Kahru properly during the Majan war, exposing him to an attack in which he was nearly killed. This weighs heavily on Lyell, making him even more determined to keep his loved ones safe.
Lyell seeks stability in life. After the death of his mother, which left him an orphan, he was set adrift at an early age. After crossing the border, he assembles a family which he is determined to protect. He lives in fear that he will lose them again or that he will fail them.
Lyell is quick witted and often relies on persuasion to achieve his goals or to confuse his enemies. He's playful, but also emotionally intelligent, knowing how to handle other people's feelings sometimes better than they do themselves.
Lyell is infinitely loyal, as well as a very capable caregiver. He values his relationships to others, sometimes more than himself, and is constantly thinking of them before his own needs. He is selfless and slow to anger, yet once he has set his mind on something, he will not easily change it, particularly when he feels his family is in danger.
Lyell is friendly and caring by nature and only resorts to violence when it is his only option. He strives to understand the emotions of others and console their pain, even when he can do nothing to ease it. He believes that all people are worthy of respect, even if they are enemies.
Personality Characteristics
Lyell above all wishes to keep his family safe and comfortable. When he believes they are threatened, he will go to great lengths to protect them, and at the great personal cost.
Lyell is a skilled artist, preferring charcoal sketching. He always draws the truth as he sees it and likes to depict people doing ordinary things. He also enjoys dancing during special occasions.
As he was never taught mathematics, he is inept at mental mathematical calculation.
His grace on land does not translate to the water; he is a weak swimmer and tires quickly.
Lyell loves to learn, especally from other people. He enjoys hearing them talk about their interests and likes to obtain a diverse set of skills. During quiet times, he likes to tell and listen to stories.
He also enjoys exploring and traveling.
He dislikes mechanical machinery.
Lyell is loyal, expressive, nurturing, and curious.
He is also stubborn, overly selfless, and can be annoying and reckless.
Lyell adores children and animals.
Generally as hygienic as it is possible to be in the wild, but when he has access to bathing water and amenities, he cleans himself often. A faint smell of dog always lingers around him, however.
Social
Lyell has a network of roughly a dozen Majan fighters. He is also acquainted with the members of the Order and several clan chiefs.
Though Lyell has no living family, he is part of a close group of friends that count each other as family. All were raised by the Druid Gwydion, whom Lyell views as a parent. Valdara and Kahru are like siblings to him.
Lyell is loosely part of the Majan Pantheon.
Lyell is open and friendly, eager to meet new people and learn their ways. He often wins people over with his humor and eagerness to learn, as well as his evident respect for all people. He can, however, come off as impertinent or acting above his station when in the company of nobility. Often, people underestimate him due to his playful attitude.
Lyell has a casual manner, often sitting or reclining in strange ways. He often shrugs when people ask him personal questions and tilts his head when he's trying to understand another person's emotions. He makes eye contact often and is not disconcerted by it.
Lyell has a familiar, named Lupa, who is a large black wolf. It was Lupa who brought him to the old country.
Lyell speaks casually, sometimes not finishing his sentences or making faces to convey meaning.
