Adventure Book #1

My feelings

When we went on our first adventures together as members of the Wolves, or missions like Cap used to say, I remember being on watch with Cap. Since they made me Sergeant, out of all people, I thought it was a good idea to see, how Cap handles his guard duty. I can still picture it very clear in my mind, how he was sitting in front of the bonfire, writing in his book. When I asked him about it, he told me he likes to write down our adventures, that it helps him to keep track of the important stuff that happened, but also to clear his mind and handle his emotions.   Now I am sitting here, with a book of my own in my hands, trying to put down in words what horrible things happened to us. Tiny, the mighty Tiny, ripped apart by filthy ghouls. Cap dying to protect both Mini and me, so we could escape safely from that monstrous dragon. After losing two of my most precious friends, my secret rival Tiny and my mentor Cap, I didn’t have time to think or to feel anything. Only Cap’s last order echoed in my head: Run! I have become responsible for our little group, and I need to bring my friends back to Birdy, preferably in one piece. And I swear I will.   Now that I have some time for myself, it hurts so much. Seeing Mini in so much pain and me being unable to find the right words. Lucky doesn’t talk much, but I know he must be in shock too. The tears won’t stop, but Cap you were right, writing this down helps a lot.

Our adventure

Before I got this book, we had met three new companions. Gwenelle, we met at the tower of giants, Shirel and Yelena waited for us in some cage, imprisoned by the red lizards.   Gwenelle’s a grumpy but somehow shy half-drow. She doesn’t talk much, but any time she says something I can literally feel the tension building up between her and Mini. It’s true that she seems harsh, but how can you not like someone who can walk on walls? Come on Mini!   Shirel is a tiefling, like the one we met in Adamantium? (damn I really need to pay attention to this now I guess) He has skin white as snow. He seems like a fun person to travel with and in battle, he has some really nice tricks up his sleeve. I really hope he casts one of his spells on me some time, I mean with that haste spell I will be Ork Wick indeed.   Then there is Yelena. I don’t really like her. I mean she is amazing in battle and is a nice person. But why is she stealing all my kills? That was a little game between Tiny and me… well maybe that’s why I don’t get closer to her. I should keep that in mind and respect that she doesn’t do this on purpose. My feelings for my lost rival don’t make her a bad person, right? Well at least Lucky really seems to like her since he doesn’t stop looking at her like he’s crazy or something. Once Yelena feels his eyes on her, she tells him she’s into girls, whatever that means.   Anyway.. We fought side by side with the red lizards. Those guys are able to talk like us, unlike their green counterparts, even though their king Alf and his right-hand man Uno (not sure about those names.. long way to go Cap) tried to hide this from us at the beginning. I decided to ally with them since we had a common enemy and I am sure that Cap would have done the same. Good thing I had a guy like Cap as my predecessor.   We fought a false king, well actually... we massacred him. Tiny would have loved this! There was that big lizard with an axe, small dinosaurs, and a big one the shaman king was riding. After the battle I helped Mini extract a tooth from it, Tiny was looking for one after all and Mini really wanted that tooth to honor him I guess. It’s really adorable how she doesn’t shy away from her emotions and keeps our fallen comrades in mind.   After the battle, Alf came talking to us and told us that this stupid black dragon was considered a god among the green lizards, but as a false god by our red allies. I will find out more and make sure that oversized salamander is going to pay for what it did. The thing that bothers me is that their story doesn’t match the one Tiny used to tell. There’s apparently a big shot under the dark elves and the goliaths. Well, at least Tiny never mentioned the dark elf.   Back in the army camp I had my first meeting with the Legatum (Cap can you believe I got his name right?). While I gave him our report, Shirel was reading his mind and told us afterward that the Legatum was thinking about that drunk Silvio. Guess we need to talk to him again. We just need to sober him up first. He gave us a new mission, something about the mines. I agreed to it, since I want to finish this job that we started together. After the meeting, we got paid… 39 000 suns… a small price for two fallen friends.   Before we got some rest, Lucky, Mini and I decided that we take our new companions with as, at least after the mission is done. Birdy will know what to do with them. They might even join the Wolves. Mini wasn’t too happy to take those guys along. I really want to cheer her up and truly wish I knew what to say to her…
