Aleba (Ah-leh-bah)

The Aleba are a marsupial-like species that reside on Varlus. The Aleba have established diplomatic relationships with many other intergalactic species, and are one of the founding members of the Galactic Union.

BASIC INFORMATION

ANATOMY

Aleban bodies are covered in short, dense fur that ranges in color from silvery gray to blue. Their most notable physical feature is the presence of a ventral pouch on the abdomen of female Aleba, used for nurturing their young during the early stages of life. They also have long, muscular tails and sharp climbing claws.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Being herbivorous, the main part of an Aleban's diet are leafy plants, fungi and grasses. If the opportunity provides itself, they will rarely eat meat, specifically lean types of meat. Their daily caloric intake ranges from 1750 - 2250.

Genetics and Reproduction

Female Alebans are pregnant for approximately 10 months, after which the underdeveloped offspring crawl into the mother’s pouch where they remain for an additional 8-10 months before becoming independent.
Alebans are monogamous in nature, and in more modern times, mate selection is often influenced by compatibility not just in personality but also in professional goals. It is common for Alebans to get together due to business/research ventures or projects.

Civilization and Culture

Most Alebans are skilled mediators and diplomats, though between their own kind they can be very protective and territorial. Alebans have a a tendency to “hoard” resources, whether it be material wealth, knowledge, or alliances.

Vyrath

Alebans place a large importance on family, which is also known as a "Vyrath". A Vyrath not only includes immediate relatives, but also extends to close friends and business partners.
Businesses are family-run, spanning generations. It is common for Vyraths to specialize in particular industries: such as starship engineering, agriculture, or logistics, passing down trade secrets and expertise.
A successful Vyrath is seen as a reflection of its members' trustworthiness and ingenuity.
Disputes and rivalries are common between Vyraths due a large overlap with family and business. However rival families will form temporary alliances to overcome more pressing challenges when needed.

Interspecies Relations

The Aleba have developed a reputation as reliable and trustworthy allies throughout the galaxy, actively engaging in interstellar trade and collaborative research. They get confused along with The Mort a lot, due to sharing distant ancestors.
It's considered very offensive to try and pet them, or touch their tail.
Some more esteemed members of other species can become honorary members of a Vyrath if they have been extremely helpful to the family. It is seen as the highest form of respect an Aleban can give.
