owl

Owls are nocturnal birds of prey notable for their upright stands, shorter, hooked beak, large eyes, and hooked talons.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Owls possess forward-facing eyes, a shorter beak like a Hawk's, and soft wing feathers that allow them to fly silently. Their eyes are relatively large compared to the skull, and they are able to turn their heads almost all the way around to see behind them. Male owls tend to be smaller than the females.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Owls are carnivorous, feeding primarily on insects, small mammals, and rabbits. They will swoop down on their prey, using their powerful talons to capture and pin it before using their sharp beaks to kill. They typically swallow smaller prey whole, later regurgitating inedible parts such as bones and fur.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Owls have excellent night-vision and hearing, which they use in conjunction to pinpoint their prey.
