Session 48 - River Pirates and Ill Omens

General Summary

Agnessa, Ivan, and Groump discuss the mysterious figurine and Groump's vision while the rest of the party investigates a household with a boat. Ivan recounts the abridged story of Khoma to Agnessa.   Meanwhile, while trying to sneak up to the boarhouse with Dukh and Nadia, Marina gets attacked by the household owner's dog, and despite her efforts, fails to negotiate for a boat ride across the river due to the owner  exorbitant demands.   Agnessa claims she can magically persuade the household head to offer their boat, and the party agrees to her plan, accompanying her in case of trouble. However, her spell fails to charm the dog or the owner. Marina puts the dog to sleep, accidentally causing Agnessa to fall asleep as well.   Ivan steps forward with Groump, threatening the household's livelihood unless they turn over the boat. Faced with this ultimatum, the homeowner agrees, and the party uses the boat to cross the river after multiple trips.   Deciding against returning the boat to the homeowner despite earlier promises, the party travels by land, consuming the rest of Ivan's buckwheat and rations, along with some rabbit caught by Dukh, over the next two days.   The first night passes mostly uneventfully, except for encounters with terrible Norik mosquitoes. During the second night, ominous events unfold. A foreboding wind threatens to extinguish the fire, prompting Agnessa to dig a pit to keep it going. A large oak nearly falls on Agnessa, revealing a divine magical stone with Irii writing underneath, mentioning a five-legged dog awakening in the Land of the North Wind. There is also another script on the stone, but Ivan cannot read it.   Toward the end of the night, a horse-sized bird with a human woman's head falls from the sky onto Groump, charming him with its beauty before bursting into flames. A single feather, made of solid gold and radiating celestial magic, is plucked before it is consumed.   The group agrees these events are a sign. They try to decide if the figurine of the rive-legged dog should be burned in the fire of the phoenix creature. All eyes turn toward Dukh.
