Masks of the Lucemi

When I saw the depictions of Senemi showing them not wearing masks it dwelled upon me that this habit of us Lucemi is quite interesting, so it had to be documented somewhen.
The mask of a Lucemi is his public identity and thus for us natural like a part of our body. Different branches of professions, groupings, social posts, ranks of them and families along special awards have their patterns, colours and symbols being documented in the Book of Masks.

History of the Masks

One can find remainders of masks that have to be made in the first few hundred years of the Lucemi society forming, being named in passed on lore and documents too. The Masks seemed to be used as an addtional protection against the harsh surroundings filled by beasts we only know from The Wilderness, Bomemi and poisonous Ami. Still the Lucemi back then seemed to value or quickly started valuing the privacy and anonymity in which they stand up to their position and goal. Somewhen awards and ranks seemed to wander from clothing to the masks and the habit evolved, that every Lucemi had to forge his personal mask and present it to The Council.

Traditions of the mask today

Intimacy of the face
It evolved that the Lucemi see showing ones face to another as a very intimate thing only done at home or in front of people you really trust.
Growing up
Every Lucemi has to travel to Lucem once and that is when they become a Mask. If not done in their homevillage they will forge their Mask there and present it to The Council.
Unmasking
The biggest disgrace for a Lucemi is, when The Council, and only they can do so, decides to punish a misconduct by taking their mask

A very unique "document" idea! I really like the detail that markings are added to indicate ranks and awards. I'd love to know more about how the masks are forged and what materials are used in their creation.

Thanks that makes me really glad! Great ideas, I will add more to that when the other prompts are finished, overall it's astonishing how many thoughts for the society can evolve from this idea.

This is a very interesting an unique idea for a document! I would recommend expanding on the meanings behind the colors, symbols, and patterns you mentioned.

I love the idea of masks as personal identifiers, and its a neat take on the "document" idea! I am curious about a few details, though. Are they full face masks, or do they only cover a section of face? And what kinds of misconducts would make the Council Unmask someone? Is it only considered intimate for adults to show their faces around others, and considered ok for young children to stay unmasked? This was mentioned in another comment, but I too would like to see some examples of how the markings denote different statuses and professions.
