Lost Words Hamlet
Moonlight Adventure
Once Upon Awhile Back
Violet and her family live on a farm near Lost Words Hamlet. Her father was a well-regarded village storyteller. He researched his own family life and visited counties and villages close by and far away. He learned to tell a good joke, and he found secrets to share in places where no one else thought to look. Then one day during the harvest, he died after a fatal accident.
The death of Violet’s father left the town without a storyteller and Violet without a father. Not only did she grieve his loss, but she also lost her ability to tell the stories Violet’s father taught her.
Violet’s Uncle Fred North relied on other methods for telling him what didn’t go well. He noticed the friendly barn spiders, mice, and butterflies leave the farm, so he decided that Violet and her mother needed help to break the curse.
He planned a market trip. On the day they left, horseflies filled the paddock and the barn. He hitched up Violet’s pony to the cart and laid Socks in Violet’s lap. Violet didn’t pet her, but she managed her grip, while her Uncle Fred pulled the reins on the Big Grays. Violet didn’t know where she was going. Neither did she care.
