Arena of Champions

Purpose / Function

It used to be a religious building for the purposes of worshipping the Horrors. This was the building that the Gauntlet of Horrors myth originated. It was then abandoned, and rediscovered later on. At this point, it was unknown what its original purpose was. It was rebuilt and remade into an Arena for duels, brawls, and similar things to happen. This further escalated until it became a point of culture in the town of Mossley. It is now a huge point within the town. This is now a place to establish power.

Alterations

It was originally a temple, but over time it was ruined. The roof caved in and all the furniture was lost to time. It was then rediscovered. Due to the loss in function, it was recognized as a massive open space, which was repaired to an arena. They built open seating and cleared the rubble from the center.

Architecture

This building is a massive oval, 200ft in length, 100ft in length, and it's walls are 50ft in height. On the edges of the arena, there are three stacked rings of seats for anyone who wants to observe. The older parts are made out of cobblestone, stuck together with hard clay mortar. The parts that are newer are made of a smoother, lighter colored stone. It is open to the sky.

History

This was originally a temple to the Horrors. This was a large temple that was the single biggest in the area. It was the best area to have one, and it was created when many creatures had just gained sentience and needed something to look up to. However, this temple was destroyed in a massive storm. It was then abandoned in favor of smaller churches in individual towns. They simply abandoned the temple. This occurred in 158 AL. Then, in 782 AL, it was rediscovered when the town of Mossley was being built. The new citizens, now more used to the world, misinterpreted it's purpose. They thought it was an arena, and rebuilt it.

Tourism

Not many people visit this place, as Mossley doesn't widely advertise it. The people who do come here come because it is the best place to have a fair brawl or duel. They charge a small fee to battle it out here, which is a small portion of the towns revenue. Fights to the death cost more than simple brawls. The popularity comes from the guarantee of a fair fight. They usually stay at the champion inn at the town.
