Lower Tilner River Geographic Location in Lossum | World Anvil

Lower Tilner River

The vast plains of the Lower Tilner are very flat by most standards. It must have been part of a shallow sea in the distant past. The temperature is mild and the rainfall is predictable, combining to make perfect farmland.

Geography

The lower Tilner flows through one of the more fertile plains on Lossum. It slowly winds through 300 miles of flat terrain coming out of the rugged hills in the North to the Tilner Delta in the South.   In the northeast, the Grang mesa sharply rises a 100 feet into the air towering over the flat countryside. It is roughly a mile in diameter and can be seen for 30 miles in any direction.

Fauna & Flora

The banks of the river are lined with thick reed-like plants that extend 10 feet into the air. A wide array of insects live among the damp reeds and at night the cacophony of sounds emitted from the river can be slightly disconcerting. Many edible fish species live in the river, primarily living on the insects among the thick vegetation along the banks. Several bird species also make their home in this overgrowth.   Away from the river and the farms the land becomes covered with large grasses of varying colors. In the early winter months the grasses turn purple and can make it seem that a person is in a sea of purple as far as they can see. A few small predators hunt the birds that call this region their home.   The Grang mesa is home to a unique species of flying predator locally called the Acejack.

Natural Resources

Vast farms dot the landscape with waving fields of hybridized staple crops growing in the mild summers. These fields are tended by large automated machines. Much of the food grown on Lossum comes from these fields.   Fish caught on the river are added to the diet of the local population.
