Character Creation

Character Creation Guidelines

New Players: Lore Linea is an Account Per Character site, meaning each character you play in Linea will have its own dedicated account. Please make sure you have set up your OOC Account prior to registering your Character's account.

Getting Started

All character accounts should be registered with the characters first name only and in all lowercase.

Please ensure that all fields are filled out on your character's profile. There are no minimum wordcounts or formatting requirements for these, but we do ask that you have enough content visible for both players and staff to get a good idea of who your character is! This means, at minimum:

  • A simple text description of your character's appearance, including build, height, pelt, and eye colors.
  • At least 5 personality traits (bulleted lists are acceptable for this)
  • A simple history for their character, indicating their birthday and how they came to be where they are today. Please make sure that character history follows our content guidelines at Rules and Introduction

General Appearance Guidelines

We pride ourselves on having a very relaxed character creation process! Almost anything goes- from rainbow colors to crazy mutations, and there is no in-game cost for any of these. We simply require that the character have a recognizably canine face, and appear at least 50% canid overall.

Any canine is allowed to be used as inspiration for your design, meaning your character may resemble foxes, wolves, coyotes, maned wolves, African wild dogs, tanuki, domestic dogs, or other real-life canids. Hyenas are also permitted under these rules. However, from a lore standpoint, all characters are understood to be "wolves" and are addressed as such.

All pelt colors, eye colors, and physical mutations (wings, horns, etc.) are fully allowed. Most markings are allowed so long as they do not contain logos, copyrighted material, or offensive imagery.

Size and Build can be selected from our drop-down list of options. They are as follows:

  • Sizes Measured as height to withers: Small (16-22 inches), Medium (23-29 inches ), and Large (30-36 inches). Towering (36-45 inches) and Tiny (7-15 inches) may be purchased via the support reward OR are available as a lineage perk for Dire Varnir and Iridescen lineages respectively. Specific numeric heights may be listed on character profiles but are not required.

  • Builds indicate your character's weight and overall bodily appearance: Emaciated / Slender / Average / Muscular / Heavy / Chubby / Stocky / Lean / Wiry / Gangly / Curvy. Specific numeric weights may be listed but are not required. Weights are assumed to range between 30 lbs (Tiny characters) and 180lbs (Towering characters) with most characters falling within 60-120lbs (small/medium/large characters)

Passive or aesthetic magic, i.e magical features that do nothing to aid the character and are purely for appearance, are also allowed. This may include, but is not limited to, features such as light-emitting glowing markings, plants growing from one's pelt, or icy horns. However, if a magic or mutation is used to aid your character or affect another in any way, you must purchase the equivalent magic spell with ether and follow all impactful action guidelines.

Example
Example 1) Lorna discovers that she can make the tips of her horns glow red. This does absolutely nothing other than look awesome. This is considered passive magic and can be used freely without in-game currency purchase or dice rolls.

Example 2) Lorna discovers that she can make the tips of her horns glow red. She uses this light to guide herself and Ryley through the deep, dark cave without waking the sleeping dragon. This is not considered passive magic, and Lorna must have the necessary magical affinity in order to perform this action.

Accessories are permitted, but are subject to a few restrictions/guidelines. Firstly, Linea is limited to stone- and iron- age technology, meaning that while swords and cloaks are fine, firearms or complex mechanical limbs are not. Second, a character's ability to fashion or craft objects is directly tied to their skills (Skills Overview) meaning a character with zero points in the "artistry" skill isn't going to be able to craft an intricate piece of fine jewelry by themselves. However, it is completely fine to join the game with such items so long as their origin makes sense- perhaps it was a gift, or found treasure! Lastly, characters may not join the game with enchanted items, which are special and must be earned through gameplay ( Special Resources and Enchanted Items)

Character age and life cycle

For the most part, Linea's wolves age like their real-life counterparts, with some exceptions:

  1. Characters have a maximum lifespan of 9 years. They must pass away before reaching their 10th birthday (unless one of two exceptions are met- see "ancient" and "ethereal" sections below!)
  2. Characters are not sexually mature until 1 year of age (equivalent to about 20 human years old). Prior to this age they cannot breed or produce offspring.

Below is a general guideline for the life cycle of an average Linean.

Puppy: 0-2 months old
(Equivalent 0-6 year old human)
Tiny, helpless, but growing fast! Puppies are completely dependent on their caretakers, and cannot survive on their own. They are not very mobile, and cannot travel far from their home unless transported by an older wolf.
Puppies may not be created or played unless they have a non-NPC caretaker.

Juvenile: 3-5 months old
(Equivalent 7-12 year old human)
Juveniles are beginning to gain some independence, but are still unlikely to survive without their caretakers for more than a short period of time. They are more mobile, and are growing very rapidly at this stage both in physical appearance and magical abilities.
Juveniles may not be created or played unless they have a non-NPC caretaker.

Adolescent: 6-11 months old
(Equivalent 13-19 year old human)
Adolescent wolves are almost fully grown- though they may still be a bit awkward (teenagers, am I right?). At this age, wolves are able to live independently from caretakers, hunt, take jobs, and generally traverse the world as an adult. They cannot yet take mates or reproduce, but can participate in most other site activities.

Adult: 1-5 years old
(Equivalent 20-50 year old human)
Adult wolves are just that- adults! At this age characters are in peak physical condition, and can freely participate in all site activities.

Mature: 6-7 years old
(Equivalent 50-70 year old human)
Mature wolves are mostly the same as adults, though they may be starting to show their age a little bit. They can still freely participate in most site activities. they may still reproduce at this age, but little sizes will be limited.

Elder: 8-9 years old
(Equivalent 80-90 year old human)
Elder wolves are approaching the end of their natural lifespan. They lack the strength they did in their youth, and may start to show signs of age-related disease like arthritis or cataracts. They are infertile and can no longer produce offspring.
All wolves most pass away prior to reaching 10 years of age UNLESS requirements for ancient or ethereal status are met.

Ancient: 10+ years old
(Equivalent to 100+ year old human)
Ancient wolves have lived beyond their natural lifespan though means of some magic. They are old, withered, but are still here!
Ancient wolves may only be obtained by purchasing the "Immortality" support reward. With this reward, they may continue to live as long as the player desires, but are not considered truly immortal (i.e- they are still susceptible to injury or illness)

Stats and Lineages

WIP

When creating your character, you will choose a lineage, which influences what affinities and skills your character will receive buffs in. Each lineage is tied to a specific pack, though it is not required that your character be of the lineage that corresponds to their pack (though it might be odd to see a Lowlander in Barioth!)

To start, each character begins with the following "stats":

  • Health Points (HP) determined by character's age ( 1HP for puppies, 2HP for juveniles, 4HP for all other age brackets). This determines how many "hits" your character can take prior to becoming incapacitated (See: Dice Rolls and Impactful Actions )
  • Strength determined by XYZ. this determines your character's success in strength- or melee- based dice rolls. (See: Dice Rolls and Impactful Actions )
  • Skill Points determine your characters proficiency in certain skills . Your character begins with x skill points that may be distributed however you like, in addition to the bonus awarded by your choice of lineage. (See: Skills Overview )
  • Affinity Points determine the types and strength of Ley magic that your character can wield. Your character begins with x affinity points that may be distributed however you like, in addition to the bonus awarded by your choice of lineage. (See: Affinities Overview )

Pack Affiliations

Characters may begin as either part of a pack or as a nomadic wolf.

Linea is currently home to the following packs, all of which are open to join:

We highly recommend your first character start within a pack, as it is a great way to make new connections and integrate your character into the world of Linea. However, you may choose to create a character who is not associated with any pack, known as a nomadic wolf. These characters do not have a home territory, and may be distrusted by outsiders.

A Note on Personality

You're almost done! Lastly, we want to take a second to talk about character personalities. There are no strict rules on character personality, and you should create a character that resonates with you and is fun to play. However, care should be taken to make sure that characters are well-rounded and believable: meaning that your characters should have both strengths and flaws! A good rule of thumb is that your character should have at least 2 positive and 2 negative traits. This is not an enforced rule, but its a great starting point as you begin to develop your character.

In addition, it should be emphasized that playing a character with negative traits does not mean that the player condones or endorses those traits. In-character interactions do not equate to out-of-character interactions: your character may have beef with another, but that does not mean you should harbor any negative feelings towards that character's player. We encourage the exploration of all personality types!

Conclusion and Character Submission

Congrats! You now have your very own character. To begin playing, you can submit your player account for approval on LINK TO WEBSITE HERE, and from there our staff will take a look to make sure your character meets our guidelines, and let you know if you are approved to begin posting. We can't wait to watch your story unfold!
